Fight Songs and Cheers

http://www.cyclones.com/ViewArticle....RIBER_CONTENT=

I don't know how many people have been to this part of cyclones.com, but they have a cool section under "Fight Songs and Cheers" (linked above) where they have audio files of the fight songs as well as video from Jack Trice Stadium during our pre-game cheer pep from Jeff Johnson (Alumni Association President) last season. I just couldn't help but get goosebumps with such nice weather outside and hearing the band playing the fight songs. The video of the football stadium practicing chants is very impressive. You can hear the chants very clearly and most are quite loud. I just can't wait until kickoff next season!!!

I also thought maybe a link to this part of the cyclones.com website could be added somewhere on the website for easy future reference, and for anyone who happens onto this site who may not know much about the Cyclones to watch or listen to. Just an idea!

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

I-S-U!

Can't we just get rid of the pregame cheer? I thought it was pretty ridiculous to begin with. It seemed that more and more people stopped following along as the year went by. I think it leads to the belief by opposing fans that we arent' good fans and we need someone to get us fired up. I never liked it and I never will.

I think a lot of the fans came to the stadium in a down mood about how the season was going so it was hard for them to get up for the game when they knew our post-season hopes were dashed. I was never a fan of the cheers either. I like the idea, but I think people just got tired of Jeff Johnson. He's a nice guy, just a little over the top sometimes. I was in the marching band so I was ok playing songs to get the crowd into it before the game rather than Jeff Johnson.

TRUE & VALIANT

It's official. I just popped a chub. Is it August yet?

All work and no play makes me a dull boy.

Its not that I hate the pre-game cheers, its more like I mega-loath them. I'm sure Jeff Johnson is a great guy but it gets old quick. I like the idea but how it worked last year was bad. I could see it working with only Cy and the cheerleadings holding up signs like they do throughout the game. Just imagine what opponents fans think when they see Johnson out there yelling.

I also think that the cheers are way too complex. The Cy-cl-on-es cheer is the worst idea ever. Keep it simple. I-S-U and Lets go state work perfect. Cyclone Power is the one new cheer from last year that I really like though. As a student I don't care who were playing but I'm always game for a Huck the Fawks cheer too.

Some People see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? When I took this job I said why not Iowa State? Why not winning? Why not bowl games? Why not sell outs? Why not national respect? Why not us? Why not here? Why not the cyclone family?

Yea, I was sober at all the games (unfortunately) and I couldn't understand what the hell I was supposed to do with the CY....ES cheer. The "Cyclone Aerobics" was another one that I liked along with CYCLONE-POWER.

If anything, I think maybe the announcer should direct the cheers after the final "Cyclone Warning" goes off. That is, he should just say "Cyclone-Power. Let's hear it!" or something. Towards the end of the season, seeing JJ on the field trying to get us to cheer, and no one would listen was just pathetic. Either everyone was just in a stupor because of how we tail-spun into oblivion, or we all just stopped caring.

Not a fan of the "Huck the Fawks" when we're playing UNI or Toledo though. It tells me we care a little too much about that game.

PS: I went ahead and fixed your "too." It was bothersome to me.

All work and no play makes me a dull boy.
