Rachel P is transferring too.
Just read the press release. That sucks. Anyone close to the situation who can spread some light?
bummer! I saw that on CyclonesDOTcom!
What the....?
Is there a plague in Ames we're not aware of?
this sucks..but for some reason it does not suprise me alot.. i dont think she ever felt like she fitted in..except for the UNI game
I'm wondering if she saw two more seasons of playing behind Wieben and potentially Anderson (juco all-american) and decided to find playing time elsewhere. Alyssa Shriver did the same thing (substitute Welle for Wieben and Cipinyte for Anderson) and she had a couple good seasons at Tulsa.
That's too bad. Rachel has the potential to be really good in a year or two. I just saw her eating with some of the other basketball girls in the UDCC today too!
Just yesterday, Scott Nulph wrote that "[i]t appears the only losses will be to graduation. The Cyclones expect all scholarships players back next season."
I have no insight into personal or team dynamics, but, from the fan perspective, I'm disappointed. She has three more years; showed a lot of potential and would have been part of a strong front line. I would rather have Rachel on my team than on the other team.
That is disappointing:no6xn:
Rach showed huge potential, IMO. She had worked really hard since her injury and developed some nice post moves - with either hand. Her ability to use either hand in the post was a big plus on her side. She was bound to see more PT as her career continued, even with Wieben, Ross, & Anderson. After next season, Ross and Anderson will be gone, Wieben will be a Senior and Rach will be a Junior. IMO, Weiben and Pierson would be one of the top front courts in the Big 12 in 08/09.
I wish her the best, wherever she ends up. It will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Is she any good? I don't like womens basketball but I like when Iowa State does good at anything. So will this hurt us.
The play in the Big 12 (and most other power conferences) is very physical, and most teams have sizeable centers and power forwards. RP had the physical characteristics to be a formidable post player in the Big 12. She was a RS freshman who was improving.
Frankly, ISU has been lacking the post presence necessary to seriously compete for the Big 12 regular season title, and to progress deep in the NCAA tourney for several years now. IMO RP was was on her way to helping fill that void. To win the Big 12, the team needs players who can hold up against the Courntey Paris types. I think this is a big loss and I'm very disappointed, but I guess she needs to do what's best for her.
She said she was leaving for "personal reasons" which could be anything from "I want my Mommy," to "I'm sick of the routine." Bill was on her pretty hard all season, I thought she never lived up to the hype that surrounded her when she came in. She showed a lot of improvement in Feb. and will be missed because she had the physical build to compete in the Big 12. Something Anderson, Weiben and Nislit don't have.
