Channel 9 news reported a few minutes ago that Pearl has told Prime Time League head Randy Larson he is interested in the job.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pearl went to Iowa actually. Aside from leaving a few talented players behind at Tennessee, he doesn't have much of an incentive to stay. He has built a solid program there so far, but its tough when the women's team gets more recognition than the mens team. He began his career under Tom Davis at Boston College and later ended up with him in Iowa City so there is his Iowa contact. Tubby Smith bolted for Minnesota and I wouldn't be surprised if Pearl went to the Big 10

Yeah, but Pearl isn't about to get run out of town like Tubby was.

I have always thought Pearl was a crank during his days at Iowa, so he would be a good replacement for Eddie.

Barta no longer has a choice. He has to come up with a name. I think that Altman is a good coach, but he can't compete name-wise with Izzo, Ryan, now Smith. If he hires a no name, regardless of his ability, then he will have a revolt on his hands.

With the rep that Iowa has, in particular their fanbase, you aren't going to get a "bargain." Iowa will have to pay a name $2 million a year, which is more than Tubby got at Minnesota.

For all of the chest thumping about how much they can spend, I will be interested to see what they will come up with. I think for the $2M/year plus that they will need to spend, they will get a good one. For $1M/year or less, they get Altman.

Or maybe Pearl will remember how his former boss at Iowa was treated after multiple trips to the tournament.
