Idea for the Spring Game
I don't know if Iowa State would allow this. I don't even know if its feasible otherwise. But here goes.
Would it be possible for some of the Cyclone fanatics to take a video camera with them into the stadium and film the game? Maybe we could organize it so that someone focuses on the lines, someone focuses on the backs, someone on the receivers, and so on for the rest of the team.
Then they could edit the tape down to the highlights and maybe post them on YouTube or somewhere else. That way all of us armchair coaches could take our turn at breaking down the film to see if we agree with the depth chart at the end of spring ball.
In full disclosure, I have to admit that I don't own a video camera and I may not make it to the spring game. This would be a lot of work and I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to do it. But it sure would be interesting.
What do you guys think?

Re: Idea for the Spring Game
I know it's OK to take pictures. I'm pretty sure you can video as well. I don't think there would be any issues in posting this as your own video on YouTube.
I'm not an expert though.

Re: Idea for the Spring Game
Why would we want tape of our spring game floating around so everyone can see what we are trying to do. That's part of the game plan is people not knowing what to expect right off the bat...

However, last year I remember seeing on some of the billions of cable channels that they had things like the Penn State spring game, and I think even the Texas spring game.

Re: Idea for the Spring Game
coaches really dont show their plays during spring games, because alot of times there are scouts watching the game for other teams, so thats why u see alot of tosses and a few passes and thats about it.. it would be cool to get it on fild overal.. but i dont have a camera that i can use
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -
Re: Idea for the Spring Game
I think by the time big12 season rolls around teams have a pretty good idea what our strengths and weaknesses will be. Also, you can bet that there will be plenty of opponent scouts at our spring game, at least from the first few teams we play this season. Teams will do this for high school, you don't think they are doing it for bigtime college football?

Re: Idea for the Spring Game
or we could just get a ton of students in the stands and show the staff and other people across the state our passion and re newed hope for ISU football!

That's my thought, and as someone already stated, they generally only show formations and things of general nature in the spring game.

Re: Idea for the Spring Game
As an amateur video editor, I can attest that you're asking for alot. (Especially if you want different position videos, etc.) I may be interested in just shooting the entire game (or parts of it) and posting that, but I can't do a scrutinized, scout-like video.
In the meantime, if someone could find out for sure if video cameras are permissable, that would save me the hassle of dragging mine (along with a tri-pod) to the game for no reason.

what about a regular season game???

Re: Idea for the Spring Game
I know last year cameras and camcorders were allowed. We had our camera and we were sitting next to Catlett's parents - they had a camcorder.
As far as making a video and posting it online, I'm not so much a fan of that.

Why not? Entire spring games of other colleges are broadcasted on ESPN sometimes... Why not on CF / Youtube ?

Re: Idea for the Spring Game
I think we should all go see it live and leave the cameras at home or at least not publish the video for the whole world to see. Even though the spring game playbook will be quite "vanilla," why do a scouting report for our competitors?
Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man. -
Re: Idea for the Spring Game
Well, as others have noted - we have one thing going for us this season for sure - element of surprise/unknown.
I'd rather not make it easy for our 2007 opponents to see what we're going to look like this fall. Call it ultra-conservative - that's fine.
Personally, I wouldn't have been against not having an spring game just for this season. Keep things under a lock and key in that first year.
Doesn't upset me that we're having one - just giving another example of where I'm coming from.
