Anyone hear anything with teeth that Larry Eustachy turned down an offer from New Mexico before Alford was hired?

Does LE still wear mocks or as his lucrative Adidas deal expired. Maybe he could go to Kentucky?

The rumor is that the New Mexico AD was interested in LE, but that he was pressured by media and fans not to go after him.

Larry won more NCAA games drunk and in 1 year than Steve Alford did sober in 8 years.

I continue to follow LE's career at Southern Mississippi. A while back there was an article posted on their message board about LE and John Calipari. It is an interesting read, and references the tough time LE faced after he was let go. The last sentence is vintage LE. http://southernmiss.rivals.com/showm...d=1085&style=2
Additionally, I can't get enough of those Natty Light jokes. Those never get old, and they are so creative. There's nothing funnier than making light of someone's struggles with addiction.

Living in Albuquerque and watching the nasty things on message boards about Alford and LE, here is my take:
1. Both coached in the State of Iowa, New Mexico Lobo fans don't the difference between EIU and ISU.
2. AD here is a weak dick.........his decision was made by New president from Texas Tech(hired Knight @ TT) and his buddy Bobby Knight. (LE may have been offered but had no chance with University Prez)
3. They needed a name coach........they think the Indiana "golden boy" with hair was the name they needed. LE wasn't a name.
4. Attendance here is in the crapper, 19K seats and no butts in them. Alford will "sell" until he coaches a season or two.
5. LE and the natty light /coed incident was a big message board deal here, they keep refering to EIU not ISU the whole time.
6. Nobody buys into my statements that LE is 6 times the coach that Alford is, drunk or sober LE can out coach Alford any day.
7. the fact that Alford won Big Ten titles is all they talked about here, winning the MWC is the Lobos only goal.
8. Basketball is Albuquerque and UNM, if Alford doesn't produce here QUICK he is out of here!
9. They paid Alford more money than anytime in history for a coach. Based on $ he has to win all the time, buyout is small for a big time contract. He is a shortimer........
10. LE will land in a better place soon......

They live for basketball here........doesn't mean they know how to hire coaches.........last three Dave Bliss (Baylor mess), Fran F from ESPN (Fired), Richie McKay (Fired) thats 3 in 10 years. You have to win here and then move on.
