I agree. This is anything but a long term solution. They probably couldn't hire a better coach to turn it around in terms of coaching and recruiting. Check out his Utah record below. Scary. However where are they going to be left in a few years, if he even makes it that long. By next February he'll be a 60 year old coach with heart problems and diabetes. Being a big time D-I coach is a grueling job. I think it's a coin flip whether he'd even be sitting on the bench come the 08-09 season unless he's little more than a figure head.

Are we supposed to pretend we think the hire sucks just because it's the Hawks? He's one of the few guys I thought they might have a shot at that I didn't want to see there.

Here's a link to the violations he had while at Utah. Very good read and speaks to how stupid the NCAA was, is and will continue to be. I was actually hoping for something negative about the guy, but there's not much there.

Maybe it won't be him---hawk fans will be jumping off roofs everywhere. Please, let it happen.

I'd be interested how much truth there is in this rumor. Majerus works for ESPN so you'd think that if there was anything concrete going on with this right now there would at least be something on ESPN.com about him talking with Iowa.

I probably wouldn't tell my future boss that I had another job unless all of the I's were crossed and T's dotted. I can see him keeping quiet.

Honestly, wouldn't ESPN have something on this if it was close to being true, he does work for them... Also why would they announce it this weekend. Every sports person in America is in Atlanta not IC.

Even if he said on ESPN that he has accepted the Iowa job, the guy just can't be believed, with the history he has.

I'm not so sure this would be a great hire. The Big 10 will be a lot harder to compete in as compared to being at Utah. How long has he been out of coaching? I would rather have a young, up and coming coach as compared to a coach that was good years ago. I'm glad we have McDermott. Wouldn't trade for Majerus for anything.
