Re: KFAN is reporting Majerus to Iowa
First of all, the TV station spreading all the runors about Majerus is KGAN, not KFAN. They carry the Hawk games, and can hardly be considered a reliable source. Second, every word reguarding the coach hiring comes directly from the Hawk message boards, mostly Hawkeye report. I spent some time there yesterday, and everything Kevin reported last night on KGAN, I had read on Hawkeye report. The Gazette and KCRG are owned by the same outfit, and while John Cambell of KCRG would sacrifice his grandmother for a chance to cover the Hawks full time, they are not reporting a coach hiring. Hawkeye report even had Barta giving Majerus a physical before the contract would be signed, and had the band alerted for a pep rally Sunday afternoon. All of it is internet rumor. Haven't we seen enough of that at ISU to know better?

Re: KFAN is reporting Majerus to Iowa
Barta must really want someone else. Lowery? That would be a good hire, but I don't know if he'd want it.

The more names that get ran through the mill on this the better. I hope it ends up being like the Nebraska football coaching search. No, No, No, No....ok, let's grab a guy who'll say yes. -

Re: KFAN is reporting Majerus to Iowa
Maybe the story is a decoy. Remember how many other football coaches were supposed to come to Ames and JP surprised us?

Re: KFAN is reporting Majerus to Iowa
Rick M. was more interested in Iowa State last year because of Hickory Park.

Re: KFAN is reporting Majerus to Iowa
The Gazette report was not entirely accurate... he denied that he was interested in the Iowa job because of the lack of good restaurants in Iowa City and that he wasn't interested in driving to the Amana Colonies everyday.

Re: KFAN is reporting Majerus to Iowa
Majerus is a great coach. He learned under Al McGuire at Marquette. He will certainly be able to get the hawkeyes to play some "oh-fence" (as he pronounces it)!
But that is a different question than the question as to whether this is a great hire for Iowa. I do not believe this is a great hire for the little university in Iowa City. I think it is clear that he is a "short-term" solution. This will most noticably hurt him in recruiting. Additionally his tenure is likely to end unexpectedly...either due to health or due to the rigors of facing a tougher conference schedule than he has ever been used to in college as a head coach.
The big questions are:
Will Barta throw in a free gastric bypass in his contract?
What hotel in Iowa City will he live in?
What will be his favorite restaurants in Iowa City?

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

This was a rumor, he has no interest in the job.

They don't carry Hawk games. KGAN out of CR was also reporting the story: http://www.kgan.com/csArticles/artic...030/003071.htm -

If they hire Rick, they will get more for the money.
