What women's team lacks

Fun year watching ISU...seems to me we could use another rebounder and a quick point guard. Any thoughts?

6-5 semiheavy center who can put some mustard into the rebounding game for the Clones. A miniature Courtney Paris would stack up well.

I think the next level is in improved balance - putting five good, rested players on the floor at the same time. That way scoring can come from all positions and everyone can defend their opponent without so much help that we leave an open player. That requires some quality depth to overcome injuries and fatique at every position. I think the wide-body is okay, but, not essential. None of the final four teams have the Parisesque post, rather, they are quick and athletic. Yes, you give up something when going for rebounds but they seem to overcome that especially if the officials call displacement correctly. Having someone step-up and/or come in at the point is the number one concern now. I think we're in pretty good shape at all other positions.

By next level I'm thinking solid top twenty - a four/five seed with a real shot at the sweet sixteen - remember next year we play the first two rounds in Des Moines.

The way Georgia beat ISU down and won that game in the first 4 minutes tells me it's not a depth issue. I think alot of it has to do with quickness and agressiveness. Tough to find much of that in the upper Midwest.

I agree, also though, the refs didn't help by not giving Georgia their Hacking fouls....

When I first noticed the athletes from Georgia come out for the shoot around. I thought they were lean, muscular and quick. Tahn as the game started, they were also extremely disciplined. It all adds up to a great athletic team.

My hope for next year is that we have another nice surpise (or two) like T. Ross was this season. If Mosman, Florzak, Bolte, and Anderson all step up, next year results could be just as nice as this years results.

The thing about Georgia as a comparison is that team played out of their minds in the first half. The second half of the game (admittedly it was wrapped up), they had big trouble hitting shots. I had stayed and watched the first round game between Georgia and Belmont. My brother, who is a Minnesota Gopher WBB fan and has no Iowa State homer attitude, was literally wanting to high-five me after that game b/c he was convinced the Cyclones were going to the Sweet 16 - that's how average Georgia looked.

My point is, basically, if we have a good enough season to get a 4/5 seed (feasible with this team), and then get a little lucky or hot at the right time; there's no telling how far we could go.

Very true. Our most successful teams had quick aggressive players, like Megan Taylor, Desiree Francis, Tracy Gahan...

As far as a center we just need someone who is strong and can hold their position. That doesn't mean they need to be a behemoth like Paris, just some strength and aggression.

Seems like Florzak, Lacey, Ezell,and Bolte are all SG or combo guards, and Mossman is the only PG. And she played the least minutes. Lacey did a nice job at the point the few minutes she played there, but Medders will be the biggest loss. How's that for gross understatement? We NEED a PG.
