HawkeyeNation says that Barta is looking west to replace Alford. It mentions that a new name has surfaced in the coaching search, and has a picture of Romar. Since Barta hired Romar at Washington, is there a chance that he could land him at Iowa as well?

Let's hope they piddle that opportunity down their legs. | "We have gone forth from our shores repeatedly over the last hundred years and we've done this as recently as the last year in Afghanistan and put wonderful young men and women at risk, many of whom have lost their lives, and we have asked for nothing except enough ground to bury them in, and otherwise we have returned home to seek our own, you know, to seek our own lives in peace, to live our own lives in peace." I just can't see that happening. Leaving your alma mater for Iowa. Washington attracts much better talent and probably has better facilities.

I think it would be a great hire for Iowa, but I don't understand it for Romar.

I understand it...
The search started w/ Tony Bennett at Washington State. That didn't work so they headed west to Seattle for Romar. Soon Iowa will work their way down the coast thru all the Pac 10 schools and then head a little east back to Tuscon when they will announce the re-hiring of Lute Olson who will coach Iowa until he's 106.
It all makes perfect sense...

At best, that would be a lateral move for Romar. He has built Washington into a regional power, at one point coaching them to a #1 seed in the tournament (personally, I think they were overseeded, but that's just me).
I really don't think that Iowa is the type of basketball program that can hire a coach from another BCS conference like the Pac-10 or SEC. Indiana is and Michigan might be, but Iowa? Not quite.
I would be focusing on Chris Lowery from Southern Illinois if I were Barta. Maybe Todd Lickliter from Butler as well.

I would think Seattle would have more to offer than Iowa City.

Downtown smells like puke Thurs through Sat night, but I guess once you get over that, it's very easy to bask in its mediocrity | | |

Iowa City also has more 'rainbow stickers on cars' per capita than any other city in the nation.
