I was amazed to see quotes from GMac about Lickliter in the Register. This shows the respect he has brought to the ISU Basketball program and his stature in the state. Good hire for Iowa, I like our guy better.

So, how about this brilliant article from the Rag?

Iowa City, Ia. — Iowa’s marketing strategy with new basketball coach Todd Lickliter will not include a billboard in Ames.

Rick Klatt, associate athletic director in charge of athletic marketing, said billboards focusing on Lickliter will be placed in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, as always.

What about in Ames, home of the Cyclones?

“We’ve never done that,” Klatt said today. “That’s probably a city that isn’t too high on our list of priorities, the obvious reason being because that’s the home of the Cyclones.”

Iowa State had a billboard featuring men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott and wrestling coach Cael Sanderson just outside Hawkeye-leaning Cedar Rapids until last fall.

“We’ll continue to have billboards, radio spots and television commercials,” Klatt said. “We just won’t have a billboard in Ames.”

Umm, ok. Besides the fact that it's a dumb story to begin with they're trying to say that putting up a billboard outside of Cedar Rapids is the same as putting one up in Ames as if ISU has no right to have any fans there. What a joke.

However, I enjoyed two things in Keeler's column. The fact that the two coaches he has to try to live up to are Floyd and Eustachy (although the fact that he is supposedly like them but one better is a bit of a joke) and Keeler's whining that he was lied to. Waah.

LOL....if we put one up in iowa ******, THAN it would be an OK comparison, that is just stupid though, ISU has a decent sized and NOTICEABLY growing fanbase in the Cedar Valley. And Cedar Rapids is not all hawk territory or something like that. iowa athletics are just one big growing joke....

Let's just whoop their butts next year and THEN put up billboards in every town/city in the entire state with a population over 50K displaying how we just beat down the once mighty hawkeyes.

Why isn't Iowa having a billboard in Des Moines comparable to ISU having one in Cedar Rapids?

Both are the first major city out of the home town about 20-40 miles from campus. Seems it's rude for ISU to put one in CR but not for Iowa to have one in DM, with the writer needing to stress having one in Ames as a comparable. What a joke.

I am from Cedar Rapids, it is a growing Cyclone fan base there which I love when I go home. A lot of engineers that graduate from ISU go there to work at Rockwell.
