If you ask them, most places will let you put fliers on their bulletin boards. If your in Ames ask some of the downtown businesses. Some of the owners will be nice enough help you out.

Some of the owners will be nice enough help you out. Well I went around on Friday and put up as many fliers around town as would let me. I was surprised that places like Wal-Mart/Target/East Hy-Vee didn't have any kind of bulletin board...I guess I hadn't noticed. I tried to hit up the sporting goods stores and places like Ames Racquet and Fitness. I was able to get them up in the library and also the Ames Rec Center downtown, so hopefully I can get a few calls from there. I also put up some references on the website from players I've coached that have gone on to play college ball. Let me know if anybody has other suggestions for me (or if you know a little baller/slugger that's looking for some individual instruction )

Re: Sports Lessons in Ames
I'd contact as many coaches/commissioners from the youth leagues up there as you can. Give them your info - they may send some of their kids your way.

Re: Sports Lessons in Ames
If you are serious about this and plan to use your website as a real tool, you need to start with a more professional look. The design is poor and using geocities instead of paying a few bucks a year for your own domain is pretty weak.
Try getting some advice from Jake Sullivan and All Iowa Attack.

Try getting some advice from Jake Sullivan and All Iowa Attack. Yeah that's a pretty nice website they have going for the Attack. Do you know how much it would cost/what I would need to do to get a domain like that? I guess one of my biggest obstacles is that as I've stated before, I am not a website designer. Also, I am an elementary teacher/high school coach, so I don't have the financial backing that Jake has. Ideally I would like to be able to make a better website and do those kinds of things once it gets going, but because of the costs associated with these things I need to start out with more of a word-of-mouth (aka cheap website and putting up flyers around town) approach. Once I can get a good base of clients the results should speak for themselves and then I can do some of those things to help it along. Thanks for the comments/criticism though, any information helps at this point.

Re: Sports Lessons in Ames
I didn't mean to take advice from Jake Sullivan about their website. The website upgrade and the Sullivan advice were meant to be 2 separate things.
Getting your own domain instead of using geocities can be done very simply with about $20 or less per year. The design of it, on the other hand.... I don't know what to tell you.
Asside from the website, I suggest you get advice from Sullivan on what he did to get his basketball program started. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I would be interested in doing my own domain if I could do it that cheap...do you have a website that you would recommend that I could do it that cheap with? As for Sullivan, I guess I could try to find out any advice he could give me, but I think his situation was drastically different. He had Jensen financing everything and building him a facility to use for the lessons. Also and unfortunately for myself, I am not coming off of 4 All-Big 12 seasons, so I am not well known around town by name. I think that he could provide some good insight on what he actually does with his lessons, but as for starting it up I think it's night and day.

I like the changes to the website, giving some of the areas will hopefully lure some people in. Can you find your page on google? That is how I find everything, Even what I need to wear today.

Internet Domain Name Registration, Domain Transfers. Your domain name search starts here.
for registering domain names, and they also offer cheap hosting if you need that as well.

Sorry I'm kind of ignorant on all of this!

Re: Sports Lessons in Ames
well you can just get the domain and have it redirect people to the geocites page you have now. But, if I were you I would just pay for the hosting as well they are pretty cheap.
