Life according to Jon
It sounded to me like Jon Miller found his Messiah, and he is now the coach at EUI. Anyone else listen to his show today?

Listened to the whole thing... the spin cycle must have been for ludicrous speed before he went on air. You would have swore he was his first choice from the very beginning. Too bad nobody's even heard of the guy before today... -

He's been to the Sweet 16 twice. Let's not act like this is a horrible hire just because some of our fans don't like Iowa and were trying to convince themselves that this search would end up like ours when we got Morgan.

He may not be a household name, but he is a winner at the college level. I hope he doesn't take the pukeyes to any higher level, but the guy can coach.

It's a good hire for Iowa. Not this great hire that some Hawk fans wanted - but good.

Also agree that Lickliter will be a good coach for Iowa. But not a slam dunk hire. They went out and got someone similar to who they thought Alford was once upon a time. I think Lickliter will do better, but he is somewhat unproven, having only 6 years of HC experience and not really showing he can win with his own players.
The funny thing to me is that now the fans "over there" are saying that Lickliter was wanted by Kentucky, and the poster's source was the MOC/Floyd Valley I-Club. Another illustration of their delusion.

Re: Life according to Jon
As I said in another post this is clearly a solid hire on their part, not the rockets and smoke machine rally the fans Gene Chizek hire, but certainly not Wayne "He was our first choice" Morgan either. More of a wait and see choice.
Hope is not a method. Soon is not a time. -
Re: Life according to Jon
I'm not sold on Lickliter. He has never really had to rebuild a program like he will have to do at Iowa ( Its a bigger rebuilding job than people think). He kind of walked into the perfect situation at butler.

Re: Life according to Jon
I would say a decent hire at best
Lickliter must be a nice guy to get voted COY by the coaches, because honestly the man beat a couple of good teams in November and didnt even win the Horizon League outright or win the conference tournament.
Iowa should have hired Lowery...who also beat Lickliter on his home court.

Re: Life according to Jon
Lickliter also had a couple of down years, i think in 03 and 04. Will hawk fans put up with a couple of down years for a sweet sixteen? doubtful. at the first sign of adversity most unintelligent and uninformed hawk fans start wanting someone fired almost immediately, which, sadly is 90% of the fan base.

I don't think anyone is doing this. It's probably a good hire for Iowa, but it's not their high profile "wow" hire they wanted.
and $1.2 million... holy crap. He was only making $300k -
