Bandwagon fan is the fan that we all talk about wearing his oilstained black and yellow starter jacket, and hat. The only good thing about the bandwagon is that we have won enough games to attract them, but we certainly do not want them. I'll take the wins, but as for Badwagoners. Pass. Want 'em or not - when we start winning - they'll be showing up.

Apparently you didn't make many ISU football games last season. The screaming started prior to the game.

So if you do not go to the college you are a bandwagoner?

I graduated ISU 97 No, that can't be right. I define a bandwagoner as someone who changes who they root for and what hat they wear based on the success of a given program/team. The state of Iowa is FULL of these people.
Remember all the St Louis Rams stuff that was around a few years back? See much of that in the last few years? Nope. Now you have everyone wearing Cards stuff. The Bears stuff came out of the woodwork at the end of last season. Those are bandwagon fans.
I am a 96 ISU grad. I have always been 3 things:
1. Clones fan
2. Cubs fan
3. Bears fan
It hasn't been easy...

Re: Marty and Miller and Jon Miller
When I met my wife, she was a Huge Chiefs fan and a half hearted Hawk fan. I was the Hugh Cyclone fan and a half hearted Raider fan. Well, I told here there was no way I was moving in with a Hawk fan, and she said the same about a Raider fan.
So now she is a Huge Cyclone fan and I am a Huge Chiefs fan. That was 10 years ago, and it has worked out awesome for us , with a nice Red and Yellow sports bar in the basement paying homage to the Cyclones and the Chiefs.

Maybe we need a committee to further define the degree of "fanaticism".
Diehard Fan. that's me
Bandwagoner Fan. I like what cys_av8tr said.
Agnostic Fan. they frequently forget to stand up for the Fight Song.
What else?

Re: Marty and Miller and Jon Miller
I have cheered for the Clones since I was born. Have had seasons tickets as long as I can remember. Grew up going to Iowa State camps, Big 8 tourneys, NCAA tourneys and Bowl games. I donate money to ISU and know more about the Clones than 98% of most fans in the state.....but I did not attend ISU so I must be a bandwagon fan.
If that makes sense to anyone please explain, because I don't get the logic. I don't like Jon Miller but just b/c he didn't go to Iowa doesn't mean he is not a die hard fan

Re: Marty and Miller and Jon Miller
I can say a lot about Jon Miller, but I can definitely say quite confidently that he is a die hard EIU fan. He grew up in eastern Iowa and has dreamed about being one of the voices for the Hawks ever since he was a kid. He runs the HN website and is the sports director for a Hawkeye Loving radio station (WHO). Those are some pretty deep anchors he has set, so him just pulling up stakes when ISU starts becoming MUCH more successful in every sport in the near future is not going to happen. I don't agree with a lot of his Hawk Homerism, but I would classify him as just as much of a die hard fan for EIU that I am for the Clones.

Re: Marty and Miller and Jon Miller
So, if people that don't/haven't attended ISU are bandwagon fans, what about the students that get tickets when the team is doing well and don't buy/don't go when the team does poorly. Are they automatically 'true' fans since they attend ISU? Most probably couldn't tell you who Jack Trice or James Hilton were.

ppfffttt.... pleaze The way I look at it is if he chooses to set his goals that low, then so be it......kinda like setting the goal when your 13 to own a Yugo by the time your 25. Who am I to judge...
The problem I have with all the Hawk fans is having the same goal of wanting the Yugo, and then once reaching that goal, showing it off to everyone like your driving a damn Porsche, more of the 959 variety, not the 914 -
Re: Marty and Miller and Jon Miller
I think we get to caught up in our hatred for Jon Miller and the Hawks that it clouds our thoughts. I can't stand Jon Miller and his spin on the Hawks. But his loyalty to the Hawks (barf!) is unquestioned. He started working for them when they sucked in football and were average in basketball. He didn't jump on the ship when they went to the orange bowl and has not jumped ship when they went 6-7 (YES!!). Unfortunately I feel as if he is around for a while. So let's get ready for some more Hawkeye spin!
