The bill-board is still being discussed

Lickliter billboard won't be in Ames

April 5, 2007

Iowa's marketing strategy with new basketball coach Todd Lickliter will not include a billboard in Ames.

Rick Klatt, associate athletic director in charge of marketing, said billboards focusing on Lickliter will be placed in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, as always.

What about in Ames, home of the Cyclones?

"We've never done that," Klatt said Tuesday. "That's probably a city that isn't too high on our list of priorities, the obvious reason being because that's the home of the Cyclones."

Iowa State had a billboard featuring men's basketball coach Greg McDermott and wrestling coach Cael Sanderson just outside of Hawkeye-leaning Cedar Rapids until last fall.

"We'll continue to have billboards, radio spots and television commercials," Klatt said. "We just won't have a billboard in Ames."

Note to media and Joe Hawkfan - Did we put a billboard in IC that I didn't hear about? No? Doesn't UofI have billboards in Des Moines? Get over yourselves.

Re: The bill-board is still being discussed

Amen. Why does Cedar Rapids get on "off-limits" designation to Cyclones but Des Moines is open game for Hawkeyes?

I wore my ISU sweatshirt around Cedar Rapids a couple of weeks ago and I had somebody tell me that I "had a lot of guts to wear that around town." I asked why and they said because U of I is so close. I replied that it's as close as Des Moines is to ISU, but no one questions Hawkeye stuff in that town. This led to a shrug of the shoulders and then my wife came and led me out of the store.

I don't get it.

That article is sickening...ARROGANCE..that's why ISU fans root against Iowa. Their attitude, all of the Iowa is Hawkeye country, except for Ames. Makes me want to throw-up.

Ditto on all of the above. Last year's billboard was a way for Jamie to tell people we aren't going to concede eastern Iowa and our fans shouldn't either.

True story;

A couple of years ago my Grandfather was in the Hospital in Iowa City. So I drive my parents down to visit him. I have ISU plates that say TWISTED on them. While in the hospital room, one of my cousins said I was pretty brave to drive that car to Iowa City, cause it might get keyed or something. I responded with, "well you could drive to Ames with Hawkeye plates, and nobody would say anything, I guess that is because we are just friendly down to earth people" That shut him up real quick. And no, my car did not get keyed.

Slycy, I live in CR - I wear clothes with ISU logo most of the time. When I go clubbing in Iowa City, people hate my ISU license plate and make comments - the university cops pull me over often for no valid reason. I must say I enjoy it a LOT.

If you live in Cedar Rapids area, you will notice a lot more ISU plates than UNI. I think the number is only growing. Anyway I feel your pain, but you gotta love it!

CR is Pukeye central. My little brother lives there and we had his bachelor party on last years ISU/IOWA game. We watched the game at a CR sports bar and I was decked from head to toe in Iowa State. My brothers and I are all fairly large fellows, along with the friends we were with. Not one stinkin Pukeye said a word the entire game to us. I never got once comment about Cyclone gear. I never got trash talked to one.

Two reasons:
1. EIU fans all know that every game with the Cyclones now is a tough game (although last year's 2nd half was a disgrace)
2. When it comes to face to face confrontation, they pee down their legs.

Re: The bill-board is still being discussed

Oh another thing - in January of 06, this car T-boned my car as I was on the Lincoln-Duff intersection heading south on Duff. She was on her cell phone when she ran the red light and hit me when I had the green. Anyway, I ended up landing in the Flowarama (spelling?) parking lot and she drove off. A few seconds later I saw a few cars piling up in my parking lot. The car that hit me decided to come back few minutes later. As the cop arrived I came out of my car and realized my left shoulder took most of the hit and decided not to go to ER right away. Anyway, I looked at the car that hit me, shockingly enough the license plate showed "HWKFAN1" or something like that. I am suing her a$$ for my injury - I would have done that anyway since they decided to drive off initially or never really asked to see if I am okay and considering I have an injured shoulder to live with, but suing a #1 Hawk fan is just priceless.

Sue her for everything she's worth. Of course, her being a hawk fan you will probably only be able to buy a bicycle from Walmart with the winnings.

Question for the day: Can I still make season tickets work for FB and MBB if I move to Canada?
