Re: Williams: Craig Brackins is Coming to Town ***
Coaches don't get raises after losing seasons. Even with the great job G-Mac did this past season, it just doesn't happen.
I think even Greg would scratch his head if Jamie upped his paycheck. He wouldn't turn it down, yet he'd know the raise was based on potential, not production to date.
Had G-Mac gotten us into postseason play this fall, I think a raise would be justified. If that postseason tournament would've been the field of 65 - he deserved a raise and keys to the city.

Yes! I can't wait to catch the capitol league since I'll be working in DSM this summer.

Yes give him a raise. We did not have the talent this year to compete...Is this Mcdermott's fault? I believe the majority of us are pretty happy with the coaching job that Mac did this year considering the circumstances. He is bringing in a great recruiting class and if we don't give him the proper respect than another school will and he will be gone before you know it. I don't think he deserves 1M plus but I do think he deserves more than a 50K raise which is equivalent to a 7% raise which is barely ahead of inflation. If Greg is the man of the future as many of us claim than why take the chance that he slips away?

Last season was also the worst season ISU has had in 4-5 years. Granted, it was expected, but in order to get a raise shouldn't you actually earn it? I also feel Greg is the guy for the future and he will do great things, but we can't show him the money until we get some results. Having a good recruiting class shouldn't be enough to warrant a raise. In that case, Wayne Morgan should have got the Bill Fennelly 12 year extension treatment. Once GMac gets us rolling, then by all means, pay the man his money.

[quote=clonomaniac;116994]Chris, two comments:
First, is CB a 5 star recruit for real? source?
IMO Horizon conference has no competition and the few times they beat the major teams is because mid major teams have a big advantage since they play with more hunger and their existence is unknown to the sports media except for during march madness.
----------------------------------------------------
So they have an advantage because they "play with more hunger"---so in essence, what you're saying is they won because they tried harder---that's almost like cheating and it should be banned.
Also, when did the sports media start winning and losing games?
Interesting comments.

I wish you were my boss.
I think Mac will find a way to get by, even with inflation eating up most of that $50k raise.

Re: Williams: Craig Brackins is Coming to Town ***
Corporate America averages about 3.7%.
Oh, and 7% would be double the rate of inflation which is projected to be 3.3% for '07.
Where do you work? You sound awesome.

Mac has a lot of bonus clauses in his contract and I thought he started out at $750 K? Anyway he'll be at $700,000 next year, if he has a good year and makes the NCAA's he'll be at $1,000,000 pretty quick.
I have to agree you don't give a guy a raise after a losing season? Why are you rewarding someone for doing poorly? Granted we don't want someone to walk in and hire him away, but how likely is that after this year? The other thing is Mac has said his goal is to stay in Iowa and he's happy here. You don't take advantage of that, but you do recognize this is where the guy wants to be and he's happy. If he's unhappy(especially with his pay) he should let his boss(JP) know.

For comparison's sake here are the rest of the Big 12 salaries:
Gillespie 1.8 M
Barnes 1.8 M
Self 1.6 M
Knight 1.3 M
Anderson 850 k
Huggins 800k
Sutton 800k
Bzdelik 750 k
Sadler 700k
Capel 650k
McDermott 650k
Baylor doesn't release salary info...but it is specualted Drew is getting close to 800k. So that puts McDermott last in the Big 12 as OU is going to give a raise to Capel in the next few weeks....do we really want our men's basketball coach to be last in the Big 12 in salary?
Texas' new women's coach is now making 400K more than McDermott. Needless to say, I agree with Williams.

Re: Williams: Craig Brackins is Coming to Town ***
Someone said that Greg get's a $50,000 per year raise per year, so he's at $700,000.

We're getting a deal with Mac because we all know he has great promise. There's just no reason to throw $$ at him because we want to feel better about ourselves, which I think is what it amounts to.
I'd be willing to bet that Mac is quite happy with his compensation and we are at a ZERO % risk of losing him based on his compensation.
