KSU not releasing recruits
I can't wait to see Beasley dog it all year while he's waiting to go pro.
The AD there just said it in his press conference.

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
I'm so upset KSU is in this mess. Oh wait, no I'm not.

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
They said they won't do it until the recruits speak with the new coach, so Beasley and the rest of that class might get out, they'll just have to wait until a new coach is hired.
-
Re: KSU not releasing recruits
They could still transfer if they don't want to be there. They'd just have to sit out a year.

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
I'll bet they end up letting them out of it. You think it was hard keeping Wayne Morgan recruits? Try keeping Bob Huggins recruits. -
Re: KSU not releasing recruits
What if they hire that assistant who was an AAU coach and brought Beasley in? Right now he is the interim head coach. Pretty nice deal going from an AAU prep coach to a big12 basketball coach within a year. KSU is going to hurt from this.

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
No doubt this is going to set KSU back. One line of thought is retaining the assistants that brought in Beasley and the others. The major flaw here is hiring a HEAD coach just for one or two players. Especially a player like Beasley who chances are he is a one and done type player. Then they would have to start over. The other idea is bring in someone new that will stay around and just start the post-thuggins rebuilding process now and hope some of those recruits stay... Either way it really sucks for KSU!

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
OK, now the more I think about this, it isn't actually all that bad for KSU. I just had to think of their humble beginnings. I think this really only sets them back to the pre-Huggins era where they were. Beasley is going to be a stud, but he hasn't done anything for them yet.
I think we were somewhat worse off when we lost all of those guys after Morgan.
If Beasley et al. end up staying I think they are still in better position than before they hired Huggins, if they lose them they will have a somewhat worse recruiting period for this next year and will have to choose from picked over coaches... but its KSU, if they hired Joe Schmoe instead of Huggins would they really have been worse off as of right now? Obviously this bursts their bubble of becoming a national power, but eh...

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
They brought this all on themselves by hiring Huggins in the first place.

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
The reason Huggins was hired was because, in the words of tHuggins himself, "who I can get". He landed an outstanding recruiting class because his assistant coaches had relationships with great recruits.
I don't know much about the KSU AD, and we don't don't know anything about who the new coach will be, but without some of those recruits KSU basketball could go from being a force in the Big XII to as bad or worse than what Iowa State was left with after the Wayne Morgan firing.
If the kids don't get released from the LOI's they can transfer but will have to sit out a year. I'm sure tHuggins promised these kids playing time as a freshman and they don't want to sit for a year. Who knows maybe they will take a chance and hire one of the assistants if they can salvage the recruiting class. They already gambled big when they hired Huggy.

Does this sound familiar? Same situation we had after LE was gone. We did not bite the bullet and rebuild from the ground up, so we will see what KSU decides. Choosing a head coach for the players that are there in the moment is not good long term.
BTW, as much as I like the thought of KSU being down for a while, we need the big 12 north to get stronger to avoid the KSU 10-6 problem for us in the future.

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
I see what you're saying but I want to get to 10-6 first. K-State was going to be pretty tough next year and now maybe not so much.

The administration had to have known he was going to bolt once a better offer came open. Especially one one the East coast. They probably didn't dream it would be only after 1 year.

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
This will be a very interesting story to watch. KSU could easily make a bad name for itself in the basketball world by holding these kids hostage.
I know they signed on the dotted line, yet most committed because of the coach - not the school.
I'm glad ISU did the classy thing when it endured coaching changes.

Re: KSU not releasing recruits
Any word on who is on KSU's short list? They had to know the Huggins had no intension of staying in Manhatten for the long term. I would think they were planning on more than one season.
