Barnes says no to Kentucky
ESPN link
Two big names sought after, both decline Kentucky. Quite interesting and not good for the Wildcats.
However, it's not like Barns and Donovan are in bad programs.

Re: Barnes says no to Kentucky
Does that leave Tom Crean as the one to make the jump to Kentucky?

My guess is Crean will be the next target and he will jump at the chance. It would be a fine hire...I think Crean could do very well in Lexington.

Re: Barnes says no to Kentucky
After the off the court issues he had this season, I wouldn't have been surprised if Mark Few made a move this season.

Re: Barnes says no to Kentucky
I'm not so sure Gillespie has been ruled out. Someplace I read he has not officially signed his new contract. (even notes it may or may not be signed in the ESPN article)
Even if he had, he's still an option - we all know these contracts are only as good as the paper they're written on.
Izzo has been listed too, yet I don't see that one happening.
Kentucky needs to hit a home run here for their fanbase.

Re: Barnes says no to Kentucky
I see Izzo or Crean. UK is nowhere near the program it was 10 years ago. Ever since Pitino left they have been anything but one of the top bball schools of alltime. they won a NC in Tubbys first year, but that was with Pitino's players of course.

I have a ton of respect for Donovan for staying.

Re: Barnes says no to Kentucky
Mark Few resurrected Gonzaga, so maybe he can bring some hype back to Kentucky. I could care less. I am more concerned about ISU winning and EIU losing:)

Kentucky needs to hit a home run here for their fanbase. Ie: Bob Huggins contract...

Re: Barnes says no to Kentucky
What about Huggins? He doesn't stay at any program very long.

Re: Barnes says no to Kentucky
Now everyone is piling on poor Huggy. The man spent like 16 years at Cincy. The right opportunity came open, so he jumped. He's no Nick Saban, or Tim Floyd in the well traveled department.

Re: Barnes says no to Kentucky
Anytime you can take back your beer cans and scrounge up enough money to buy out of your contract, it's gotta be pretty weak. What about Lon Krueger? That offer would surely get him out of UNLV. -

That offer would surely get him out of UNLV. That's a good point. Lon came from K-State and it would be a good chance to come home. Plus a big contract and potentially some great players. K-State should jump on that unless Lon burned some bridges behind him.
