McDermott has a GREAT contract. I believe the terms are that he gets a $75,000 raise every year...which puts him at $725,000 for next season. But, here is the best part of the contract, every bonus he earns (winning the big 12 conf, winning the big 12 tournament, making the NCAA tournament, every round advanced in the NCAA tournament) is AUTOMATICALLY added as part of his base salary the next year. So, If McDermott gets a $100,000 bonus for reaching the goals of his contract, he is making an extra $175,000 the next season with the possibility of repeating those same bonuses and adding them to his base again the next year. Great contract.
I for one hope that GMAC is making $1.5 million a year under this contract in 3 years, we will all be happy!
All GMac has to do is win some stuff and he could get some big bumps in his pay. His contract is loaded with incentives for winning certain things. I'm not trying to say skimp him but we just went 15-16 so not like he had the year Huggins did to really spark this debate. I think our future is bright but we still have to get to that winning level first before it's justified going over that 1 mil mark.
and he is having more success this yr than McDermott. ..... don't get me wrong, if McDermott is more successful in future, he will be taken care of but right now , this an apples and oranges comparison on all accounts
Every coach's contract has incentives. People are acting like Mac is the only coach with these incentives.
We have expectations to be one of top teams in the conference, but are content with having the lowest paid coach? Doesn't add up folks.
Because raising the guy's salary makes him win more? Proven coaches make the big salaries. Mac is not yet a proven coach. This doesn't mean that he's not a good coach, just still unproven at this level. When he starts making the tournament every year, he won't be the lowest paid coach in the conference. But the big salaries come after the success, not before.
Less than he is here. That's why he left his Alma Mater to come to Iowa State in the first place. I think he may have gotten almost a $200K raise by coming here, but I'm not sure, I'm a little fuzzy with numbers.
