It looks like K-State is going to hire Martin and Hill, (Huggins' assistants) and praying that all the recruits will still come to Manhatten.

That strategy worked wonders with Wayne Morgan.

Frank Martin is a horrible hire. He was coaching high School 8 years ago. The biggest school he ever coached at was K-State as an assitant. Before that it was like Northeastern or something like that. They must really want that recruiting class to stick around.

I guess that Hill is basicly connected at the hip to Beasely (stud recruit) and I think he is just an AAU coach that Huggy brought as a package deal.

Even if you get the studs, you still need to be able to coach. If this guy is hired, he will be tested!

I don't feel sorry for KState at all. I don't think they should of hired Thuggins to begin with. What does that say about your program when you hire a guy like that. He never graduated anyone, he had over 19 players get arrested when he was at Cinci. He recently had an OWI on his record, Etc.
Also, Huggins has already left KState in a better position than they were before. They supposedly have the number 1 recruiting class coming in next year...

As a matter of fact, I have no knowledge at all...

If they can keep that class they'll be good enough to do some damage next year even if I were coaching. Long term who knows what will happen but if he can keep a pipeline to Florida it might work out for them. It's not like even modest success would be unwelcome there for the forseeable future.
All of that said I'd be pretty leery if I were a Wildcat fan.

This will go down in history as one of the worst hires ever. A year from now Beasley and Co are gone to the NBA and K-State is left with a shell of a program. It's hard to believe they produced coaches such as Tex Winter (one of Johnny's mentors) Cotton Fitzsimmons, Jack Hartman and Lon Kruger.
Oh wait, that was all before they sold their soul for football.

This will set their basketball program back for years. Also, don't look for their football coach Prince to be there long term. He has really irritated a lot of KSU fans in the short time he has been there. There athletic department in five years will be a joke, just like in the 80s.

You guys talk as if K-State has done anything in bball the last 10 years. What do they have to lose? They have the talent to make a couple NCAA tourneys, which is rare in the Little Apple. Plus, everyone assumes this guy can't coach worth a lick, which we don't know. Who would they hire right now anyway? With no real sexy options, might as well ride out the steller recruiting as long as possible.
I guarentee their fans wouldn't be ungrateful if this guy led them to 3 winning seasons, a NIT Final 4, and a NCAA tourney win in the next 3 years.

Ouch Drive4cy! Way to stick it to the Wayne Haters!
I agree with you. Just because we got mixed results from Morgan doesn't mean that Martin will be a failure.

Having said that, if you were KSU and you just got 'bent over' by Huggins would you rather take a chance at the "success" that Morgan had?
For those of you with short memory spans, Morgan won 20 games in his first season and we went deep in the NIT (semi-finals.) He followed that year up with a 19 win season and a NCAA bid with a first round victory. His final year we still had a winning record and finished in the middle of the pack of the big 12 with the same conf. record Mac had this year (6-10.)
Now, if you were a KSU fan would you take that for the next 3 years. I certainly would. Then maybe after 3 years they can get "their coach Mac."
Despite what many of you think the Morgan situation didn't turn out that bad for us in my opinion. We were relatively successful for 2 yrs. and when things turned sour we landed an outstanding coach.
That is lemonade people.

I'm glad to see some rational thought is coming back to this board regarding Wayne Morgan's overall record and tenure here. If you didn't know otherwise, just by reading some of the people on here, one would think that his record was 39-55 with no postseason berths instead of the other way around.
To echo Arathorn, I think McDermott is a much better coach and I'm glad we have him, but let's not act like the three previous years were the worst in ISU basketball history.
