MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
After reading about the Real Deal on the Hill AAU tourny this weekend where it was pretty much confirmed we're on the outside looking in with Zeller and Negedu, who are we looking at that we really have a chance to get? We've heard about Tyrese Breshers and Corbin Moore, are those guys real possibilities? I'm just curious about the future there at our big positions, because Jiri is gone after this year and we don't have any other bigs on the hook besides Marsden, Thompson (who will both be seniors) Brackins, and C. Johnson.

Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
I think the team is going to have to make some noise this year to keep recruiting momentum going. When we hired McD we had a story to tell. We still do, but the team needs to start producing this year IMO. We need to show major progress in Year 2 vs Year 1. It will be tough in this day and age if we don't.

Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
I always thought that Negedu and Zeller were unrealistic to get but down the road when we are contending for the Big XII tourney year in and year out, I think that it will change.

I think Josh Critle and L.A. Pomlee are realistic also. Crittle is getting a lot of looks right now. He looks very powerful.

Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
Good point nothing, excellent point.
Edit, found some info on Pomlee and Crittle in the Boo Williams AAU tourney this weekend: http://iowastate.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=661480
Iowa big man L.A. Pomlee is coming off a year off from the game because of blood clot in his leg. He looked surprisingly fresh for a guy that has been out of the game for while. His recruitment, however, needs some freshening up he said. Bradley and Wisconsin stuck with him this season while he was out. Will new Iowa coach Todd Lickliter make him a priority in state?
After a so-so showing on the first day, big man Josh Crittle picked it up on day two. Crittle, a 6-foot-8 mammoth of a forward, turned up his energy level and made it a point to hurry up the floor on both ends and he was rewarded. Defensively, Crittle crashed the boards and wasn't being pushed around. Offensively, he did the dirty work and scored buckets inside. Word is, he was even better in a big playoff win over King of the Court to advance to the semi-finals.
Crittle said he is hearing from Iowa State, Virginia, Valparaiso, DePaul, Oregon and Tennessee at the moment.

Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
From that quote Crittle sounds like a solid player that has some tenacity that we need inside. The fact that he doesn't get pushed around much tells a lot about how he plays. That's what we need!

Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
IMO we need someone who is 6'10" or taller. A true center. We have plenty of tweener forwards but no true center.

Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
Crittle sounds like a Marcus Fizer type of guy. We need someone that can get in there and scrap with the big guys and push around the speed guys.

I think he sounds like a bigger Damion Staple.

Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
I'd like to sign Pomlee as well, just because I want to get every available solid Iowa player. Just a personal preference thing.

Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
I think J'Mison Morgan would be a great adition. at 6-11 251 i think his size would be great for out team inside.

Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
I'd like to see us go after Greg Monroe of Helen Cox (New Orleans)...he was a Parade AA this year as a junior.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
Re: MBB Recruits: Who's realistic?
I'd like to see us dig up Wilt Chamberlain and put him out there as our center. Watch out ISU ladies!
I think we have about as much chance of that happening as we do at getting Monroe.

Look towards the bottom...
It is important that Emmanuel Negedu goes to a college with the right system for him. If he gets bogged down in a half court game, he is not nearly as effective as he is in a spread out and fast game. A freak athlete, Negedu is, however, undersized. He does have some touch from the midrange, can make a jump hook and does not look completely out of place on the perimeter, but what he does best, he does around the rim.
When comparing Tyler Zeller to his older brother Luke Zeller, Tyler is bouncier and quicker off the floor than his brother. He is much better as a back to the basket player as well, but doesn't shoot the face up jumper as well as Luke.
