Bates and Arnaud
Could they be the next Stanley and Hardemann? You old guys know what I'm talking about. That was the greatest offense I ever saw in an ISU uniform. I think Arnaud would be the Stanley clone and Bates, with his speed and great running ability, equates to a Hardemann. All that's lacking then is a stud RB (Bass?).
I just wonder if that kind of combo is a working possibility in this era of football.

Re: Bates and Arnaud
Stanley and Hardemann, shoot. The best combo ISU ever had was Doxon and Bandhauer. Barnacle Todd and Dream Maker, I used to call them. Doxon was as fast as fired up badger and smelled like the sea. Bandhauer could throw a great spiral, and did a TON of work to help out the Ames homeless people. Bandy once told me...give a homeless guy a burger and he's set for the night. Teach a homeless guy how to catch, skin and cook and alapaca and he's set for LIFE. Believe that!

Re: Bates and Arnaud
I highly doubt both guys will play QB for ISU. One will emerge as the starter and the other will convert or (hopefully not) transfer elsewhere.
Being Arnaud and Bates seem to be such great athletes, it would be foolish to have one of them on the sidelines.

Re: Bates and Arnaud
i honestly do not see us running a 2 qb system.. but then again you never know, and dont underestimate Arnaud's speed, for his size he is pretty agile

Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. Re: Bates and Arnaud
I loved Bandhauer and Doxson...but they couldn't hold a candle to Hardemann/Stanley and that incredible offense. They were just unstoppable.

Re: Bates and Arnaud
i still think arnaud will emerge as the starting quarterback and bates switching to safety.

but then again no no no here it is. bates will come in as a JR. arnaud will leave for the nfl a year early after winning the heisman as a junior and then bates will have 2 yrs to shine as our qb.

Re: Bates and Arnaud
Stanley and Hardemann were very gifted athletes. It is not everyday that a college team can have that kind of combo to rely on. That team was probably one of the best at ISU. It was loaded with talent. Hardemann went on and played in the NFL for the redskins returning punts and then I was told he played in Canadian Football League.

Re: Bates and Arnaud
I will show my age some when I say this, but Stanley and Hardemann were good, but a close second would be Carlson and Amundson in Major's era.

Re: Bates and Arnaud
who's to say Bates can't be Arnaud out??
what if Arnaud snaps a femur or puts his shoe on backwards or blows an ACL? It sure will be nice to know we have Bates ready to step in.... or vice-versa....

Re: Bates and Arnaud
I see Bates moving to safety eventually. It is a much easier path to the NFL if he is that great of an athlete. If he was threatened by Arnad or for sure wanted a guaranteed spot at QB, he would not have come to ISU. He and Arnad are good friends. Could also be a WR or just about any other spot.

Well, Dinger, I just posed the question to begin with, then moved on in the NEXT paragraph, to the notion that if Arnaud is our starter, wouldn't it be great to have a very solid backup? If PB moves to safety, so be it, but I like to see the competition at QB.
