What should be done with the remaining scholarships?
With the official (and unofficial) announcements of players leaving the team, should McDermott find players to replace them this upcoming season (minus the scholarship for Marcus Brister) or should he bank the scholarships and use them for the 2008 class?
Re: What should be done with the remaining scholarships
We go and find some kid by the name of Jess Wohnson that went under the radar because his school didn't have basketball his senior year. Or we kidnap Augustine from Texas...

Try and find an impact JUCO player if one is out there. We need players who can play as soon as possible.

This is what I think... find a guard who can play NOW... if he only has one year of eligiblity... that's fine... then McD can get his own guy a year from now... but Ross would have been a junior... so replace him with another junior... and it shouldn't make much a difference.
Re: What should be done with the remaining scholarships?
If we can find impact players for 07 I say use them but don't use them just because we have them.
Re: What should be done with the remaining scholarships?
There should be a lot of players freeing up from LOIs after all the coaching changes. If we could catch a good one that would be wonderful.
I don't think we should fill the schollies just for the sake of filling them.
Re: What should be done with the remaining scholarships?
Bank 1, or give it to Thompson, use the other to grab a good big from a team whose coach left him.

Thompson will get 1. That leaves two free. I agree the best solution is probably to bank one and get a big.
Re: What should be done with the remaining scholarships?
Bank no more than one. We still need players for '07. I don't want us just to give them away for the sake of doing it.
But I'm hopeful we can fill both of them with some guys that have flown under the radar (see Wesley Johnson).
Re: What should be done with the remaining scholarships?
Honestly finding a player like Wesley Johnson in July is a once in a decade occurance. It's not going to happen. I trust that if the coaching staff thinks there is a player out there that can help they will offer them. If they are just looking to add depth for depth's sake, I hope they don't use those scholarships. I think Hubalek, Brackins, Thompson, and C. Johnson is enough in the frontcourt for a good rotation. There are plenty of good 2008 players available.
Re: What should be done with the remaining scholarships?
I'd like us to put a lot of stock in '08 season. A longer, more thorough search for players could make for better results in the long run.
Re: What should be done with the remaining scholarships?
One to Thompson and one to a Juco.
