Re: Spring Game Thoughts
Good to see our punter look like one of the big 12 elite punters!!

Re: Spring Game Thoughts
Also did you notice the lack of pressure on Meyer? I know our defensive line isn't the best, but in previous years my grandmother could get pressure on our QB.

We were getting 3-4, sometimes 5 yards a pop on a consistent basis today. If you're expecting a TD every time we run the football then you'll be calling for a new coach by the first week of September.

Just as the offensive scheme and play calling was bland, so was the defense. I didn't expect Bolt to send the dogs after the QB's, even if they were not to be touched.

Re: Spring Game Thoughts
It was cool to meet those at the CF tailgate... thanks for the chili Mr. and Mrs. ISUFan22! It was delicious. Sorry if I was kinda quiet... I didn't get a ton of sleep last night and just didn't have a whole lot of energy... but I still had a good time meeting all of you.
This is my sarcasm pirate. There are many like it but this one is mine. -

Mine was a post in reference to an earlier post about how bad the offensive line was. I should have used the handy "quote" feature.
No doubt there was nothing fancy used today. That IMO makes what the offense was able to do even more impressive.

Re: Spring Game Thoughts
Well Dedrick did look like a good pass blocker, I'd give you that. Yet they've got a long way to go to be average. They really did not get any push, just kind of a stalemate a the LOS. I was just disappointed later in the game when our starting O could not manufacture more than 2-3 yards a pop with guys like frosh like Chase Hurtig and Patrick Neal on the D-Line.
Harris' long gain came with the 2nd teamers. This line is quite a bit different than last year, possibly more adapt to pass block, but there wont be much success running it down anyboys throat. At this point its a crapshoot though, but I do think Ben Lamaak will end up being a pretty solid tackle.

Re: Spring Game Thoughts
Meyer disappointed me today. He looked like he was rattled a bit in the 'second half'. He was trying to scramble and something eerily familiar, did not check to another receiver a whole lot. (I know it is spring ball, but I thought I would see a difference.)
Meyer also underthrew a LOT of deep balls. Sumeral had the DB's beat by about 10 yards, the ball was underthrown to the endzone by a few yards and the D was able to knock it down.
I liked the pseudo stretch plays in the running game. Some O-lineman were able to get down the field and block a few yards beyond the line of scrimmage. I did notice that the offense seemed to be lacking in attitude and intensity. Again, maybe because it is a spring game, but the D seemed fired up.
Scales impressed me. He is big and much quicker (not faster) than Hicks. He went right through the small holes created for him and broke some tackles.
Harris had a great run for a TD with what looked to be, GASP, break away speed. He had a nice stiff arm at the line of scrimmage to get himself free.
Singleton had a nice shot on a WR to knock the ball out. He did get chewed out though on a punt play as the ball was touched by the punting team and did not jump on the ball, he just stood there. He really got reamed.
I am not going to predict a 9-3 season, but 6-6 is possible. If Gene can go to a bowl game in his first year, he is the Big 12 coach of the year.

Re: Spring Game Thoughts
It sounds as though one of the goals of the spring was not to get anyone injured (Blythe missing, using lower tier players on return units). Certainly a smart move since we are not too deep.
I am curious about the following:
1) The intensity level of the players and the coaches
2) The excecution / discipline on both sides of the ball
Any input for those of us thousands of miles away. Thanks!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
Re: Spring Game Thoughts
I forgot to add something I loved! No 10 yard cushions on every play! There was some good man up coverage on the WR's right on the line. I have wanted to see this for a long time!

Sorry cyclone#1... I'd give you my thoughts... but I didn't see much of the game because I was blinded by the glare off of the bald guy that sat in front of me... This is my sarcasm pirate. There are many like it but this one is mine. -

I don't think Sandvig has the starting corner spot.
