VEISHEA Week is here!!!

I just walked to the library, and saw the Ag College setting up their tractor display on campus. That means one thing. VEISHEA is here!!!! A week of fun, activities, music, food on the quad, a parade; hell, it's basically a carnival on campus! Weeeeeeeeee!

Through the fire and the flames we'll carry on.

Anyone out there remember classes ending on Wednesday during VEISHEA week and terrace parties at the Memorial Union?

Re: VEISHEA Week is here!!!

I just thought that I'd share some info about one of the opening events on Monday night. It's the inaugural VEISHEA Poetry Slam. It runs from 7:00-8:30 PM Monday night in the Maintenance Shop of the Memorial Union. I will be participating in it, so come one and all to see your favorite Cyclone62 share his Mad Poetry Skillz.

Through the fire and the flames we'll carry on.

I'm pretty excited too. My son is old enough to go out and enjoy things this year. It's so nice that we're heading out to see the window painting in Campustown right now.

Yeah, I loved the four-day weekend! Now those were the glory days of VEISHEA... other than the rioting, of course.

Everyone needs to make sure that they come and see the GROOVE drumline show! They are on Saturday at 4, 5, and 7pm in the recital hall in Music Hall. Show up early- it's a popular event and it fills up fast! I promise you'lll have fun. Plus, students- we're giving away iPods!

I remember classes ending early and I remember drinking heavily but then it all becomes a bit foggy!!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Re: VEISHEA Week is here!!!

To be honest I never really got into VEISHEA. If it were not for the Dept. of Residence requiring RA's to stay in Ames that weekend I probably would have rather gone home or left town for a road trip like a lot of others I knew did. Just seemed like Greek Week II to me. I'm not sure what the makeup is of the comittees lately but seems like when I was there (98-02) it was mostly greeks in charge. The parade the parade was mostly greek house floats. I dunno, I just never really got excited about it or found much worth going to when I was at ISU so I really don't make a point to go to Ames for it now.

Shoulda come 2 years later... there was quite the party!

On a sadder note... a bunch of hawks and panthers came and tore up our house (yes, ISU students were arrested too, but I talked to an officer that worked booking that night, there were a LOT of Hawks and Panthers)

On a more positive note... VEISHEA is looking to be pretty sweet this year, I'm excited to have it back

Different Strokes for different folks I guess. I dunno, I get real excited about VEISHEA, as it's a community thing that the entire campus and City of Ames gets involved in. I don't see a similarity between GW and VEISHEA, personally. That said, the Battle of the Bands is the best part of VEISHEA for me. Wildcards play tomorrow!

Through the fire and the flames we'll carry on.

Re: VEISHEA Week is here!!!

If you only go to official events; VEISHEA wouldn't be that much fun because most of those events are supported by the Greek community. The fun starts with the house parties and The Beer Olympics which is all day saturday.:Dizzy:

Re: VEISHEA Week is here!!!

The format of VEISHEA has totally changed from 2004 and before. The event truly does an honest job of including all students of the University. Look on campus each day and compare that to 2004. Things are a lot different.

Get out and see the concerts and events! A lot of people put a lot of money and time and effort into this week.

Re: VEISHEA Week is here!!!

See when I was there the entertainment was usually pretty lame. They had Tone Loc at the Rec (who in his days was cool but not anymore) and one of the Hilton concerts where the Black Eyed Peas which at the time everyone was saying "who?" because they didn't have any hits yet. I think Tracy Morgan might have been a comedian once. I didn't see his act but some guys I knew did and said it was pretty sad. Seems like during the time I was there they got a lot of 2nd tier or washed up or unknown acts for entertainment that didn't get anyone that excited to go see. Plus the hold dry VEISHEA thing was always the biggest topic leading up to it. Maybe it just sucked when I was there or its just me but based on my expiriences with it I thought it was pretty lame and just another week for the Greek community to show off when they already have Greek week to do that.
