Pretty good analysis on what to expect for this coming season.

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

I-S-U!

I agree with one of the last statements in that article. I keep remembering coming to ISU as a freshman in 2004, and learning about the 2-10 disaster the previous year, and then the excitement that followed when the team ended up scoring big-time when they bounced back with a 7-5 record. 6-6 is about what's expected, but 7-5 going into a bowl game would be about as much as anyone could ask for.

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

- Sacks: Opponents 38 for 244 yards; Iowa State 24 for 142 yards
- Penalties: Opponents 72 for 701 yards; Iowa State 56 for 429 yards
Those are fun facts?

My Roman Villas:

Roberts-Harriman (-74|133)
Welch-Ayres (-73|133)

They changed the article from earlier. When I read it earlier in the morning it had Jon Banks as our 4th and 6th best player. I thought, "Damn, Chiz must really be impressed!!"

I can't believe they called Caleb Berg our 8th best player...

I'll order up another shot of sin, I'm running twice as hard into the wind, I'll hitch a ride when the next one comes in, fell off the wagon again...

I can't believe they have Culbertson as our 5th best. If that's truly the case come fall, we're in big trouble.

They listed backup quarterback as a major weakness of the offense.

They also said that Culbertson doesn't easily get rattled, and they called Tuba undersized since they think he is 285 pounds.

look at Culbertson's stats. he deserves that recognition. What people remember are his two missed kicks. I agree they were HUGE kicks, but I believe both happened early in his career.

He doesn't deserve recognition for how many kicks he misses in big games. It's not just the two kicks you speak of. He has missed plenty of kicks in our bigger games the last few years. He missed a chip-shot @ Nebraska in 05. I believe he missed one @ Iowa last season that was not a tough kick. How about the kick against Missouri last season? I could go on, but don't feel like doing the research. He is no where near our 5th best player.

Uh, he's missed more than 2. Missed one last year that could've put the Missouri game out of reach.

I want Shaggy to make a big kick and get that monkey off his back just as much as anyone else. For the most part he has been accurate. But if the game is on the line and he's on the field, I don't have a good feeling.

That automatically disqualifies you from being in the team's top ten players.

SCORING TD FGs Kick Rush Rcv Pass DXP Saf Points
Culbertson,Bret 0 8-10 16-16 0-0 0 0-0 0 0 40
2 misses - one big one that everyone remembers - he was a walk-on freshman
big miss being 24 yd. against Missouri - final score (14-17) LOSS

missed - 36 yd. vs. KSU - final score (37-23) WIN

Culbertson,Bret 0 12-16 34-34 0-0 0 0-0 0 0 70
4 misses - 2 big misses - his worst year by far - walk-on sophomore
big miss - Missouri - 43 yd. - final socre (14-17) - LOSS
big miss - Kansas 41 yd. - final score (21-24) - LOSS

missed 43 yd. vs. TAMU - final score - 42 -14 - WIN
missed - Nebr. 26 yd. - debatable the signifigance of this kick -final score (20 - 27) - LOSS

Culbertson,Bret 0 8-11 24-24 0-0 0 0-0 0 0 48
3 misses - the Mizzou one could have been huge but the team recovered and won the game -
big miss - none
missed 45 yd vs. Iowa - lost the game 27 - 17 - this kick is not why we lost - LOSS
missed 40 yd. vs. KSU - lost 31 - 10 - we got our butts kicked - LOSS
missed 28 yd. vs. Missou - we won - WIN

SO - 3 big misses that cost us games all of which came in the first 2 years of a walk-on

100% extra points
76% on field goals

Like I said EVERYBODY thinks of the Mizzou and Kansas games both of which were HUGE for this program (i.e. big 12 division on the line.)
I agree he needs that BIG made field goal to help define his career. He is a consistent performer but can NOT be called a clutch performer...yet.

Who would you put in his place in the top 5 off of this year's squad?

Shaggy is a good kicker as long as there is no pressure. He did make a couple of extra points in OT against Toledo so that has to count for something. One thing that is always overlooked is that Shaggy has NEVER missed an extra point. For being a walk-on who just showed up one day, he's done pretty well.

What I don't get is how Zitek isn't one of our top 10 players?

Some People see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? When I took this job I said why not Iowa State? Why not winning? Why not bowl games? Why not sell outs? Why not national respect? Why not us? Why not here? Why not the cyclone family?
