Will any of the JUCO's help?
I'm desperately hoping some of the Fall arriving JUCOs provide some help. Looks like we need DB, linemen and a good running back. Any thoughts on best bets to:
1. make it to campus
2. provide quality playing time
Thanks

Re: Will any of the JUCO's help?
im not sure who the 8 linemen you are talking about are. you might be including the 4 JUCO OL, that wree here for the spring...1 of which already left. there are 2 or 3 JUCO DL that should step in and play

Hopefully Wallace Franklin makes the cut in june too.. hes todd blythe all over again

Re: Will any of the JUCO's help?
I think they will. Allen Bell and Bass will probably take over starting jobs at tailback and corner. One would think that either Michael Tate or Chris Weir will start over the 250 pound Braaksma at DT, and Chris Lyle's got a good shot to start at DE. Wallace Franklin would provide another great target for Meyer to go along with Sumrall and Blythe. Dedrick is starting and our best pass blocker and I wouldn't doubt it that Blaes finds a way to start at either G or C.
Thats if they all make it though, which probably wont happen...but heres hoping that they do!

oh and Bibbs too, he could very well start at MLB

Re: Will any of the JUCO's help?
One thing I've learned over the years............Don't count on JUCO's in FB. Our of 4, I'd guess that 1 actually pans out and contributes anything above average and 1 out of 50 turn into a Seneca type.
That probably doesn't hold true for every JUCO player, but for the ones that end up at ISU, it seems to be par for the course.
I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Will any of the JUCO's help?
Tim Dobbins, Alvin Bowen.. we have had good luck in Juco ranks... Fred Garrin is looking good right now

LaMarcus Hicks, maybe?
As said, sadly, truth is many JuCo's don't end up making the impact we think they will, because we base their potential on their performance against sub-par competition in the JuCo ranks, in most cases.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in Wallace Franklin making it to campus. He failed to qualify twice when he was committed to Nebraska. IF he does make it here I will be suprised if he makes it past one semester.
I think the Jucos will help the defense with Bibbs, Bell and the guys coming in on the DL but the offensive Juco's that can make an impact are already here and they haven't done to well (outside of Dedrick). Kelechi Osemele and some other freshman might see time but wont make much of an impact.

NICE POST!!!! Case in point right there from ISUAlum2002. That is the reason right there that not many teams (unless under quick-need rebuilding statuses like ours) go after jucos. They all are ???????'s. You'll have some become great players like a Seneca Wallace, but for each one who works out, there is 3-4 that never pan out bcuz they never played against competition as good as they see at the D-1 levels.
