Rachel Pierson Transferring to DePaul?
I have to admit that I am not the most knowledgable WBB person...but how will this impact the Cyclones?

Re: Rachel Pierson Transferring to DePaul?
Didn't see this coming at all. This will hurt our depth. Good luck to her though.

Re: Rachel Pierson Transferring to DePaul?
We knew she was leaving, we didn't know where she was going. DePaul has a good team that just got better. They've had success in recruiting. Her loss at least hurts our depth in the paint. I'm curious how many years she has left. She will sit-out next year . I wonder if she gets six years since she was injured last year.
Re: Rachel Pierson Transferring to DePaul?
I am no expert but I think she red shirted last year and so only played this year. She has to sit out next year, but I think she would still have 3 years of elgibility left.
Re: Rachel Pierson Transferring to DePaul?
I think she'll lose that year of eligibility when she sits out. You typically get one red-shirt, maybe two if you had two injuries.

She was listed as a redshirt freshman last year. I would assume she could petition the NCAA to get an extra year with that being considered a medical redshirt.
And since it's not a benefit to ISU, she'll probably get it!
Re: Rachel Pierson Transferring to DePaul?
I never quite understood why players that already sit out 1 year transfer then sit out another year before they play again. 6 years of college is a long time to some. Take for instance Farnold Degand. Redshirts his freshman year here, transfers after Wayne Morgan is canned, then sat out this year so he will finally get to play his "freshman year" this coming season at NC State.

Correction...He gave up his "freshman season" by transferring to NC State. He's now a redshirt sophomore.
Re: Rachel Pierson Transferring to DePaul?
Ah, so he still wasted 2 years before he played basically...

yep....you only get one redshirt. Barring a medical redshirt due to injury. Which still needs to be approved by the NCAA (ala Tony Yelk)
Basically 5 years to play 4. In Degand's case, 5 years to play 3.
