People's has to relocate
FYI...It is with a very heavy heart that I am contacting all of you today, but wanted to personally notify all of you that People's has not been allowed to renew our lease at the corner of Lincoln Way and Welch Ave, and will be looking for a new home after May 31st. Our landlords have decided that they wish to re-claim the building and as a family begin a new venture here. Subsequently, the era of People's tenure here must come to a close. First, I would like to reassure everyone that People's is not closing, but will be relocating in Ames in the very near future. Ames and Campustown have always been our home, and we wish to continue that relationship for as long as possible.
What I most want to pass on too everyone, is that we wish to go out with a bang (no make that a blast), as we move forward. The bars (both People's and Lumpy's) will remain open for business through Sunday, May 27. We want to invite everyone who is able to come back and see us again (We want to re-hash some of those "most embarrassing moments") The 27th is planned to be the most epic celebration in the history of
People's - technically you can't plan for this much mayhem, but we're trying. But the whole month of
May is going to be a celebration of some of the great days of Peep's, with vintage bands returning, and with your help, a huge turnout of alumni, staff and friends.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell personally some of the people who have made this place so memorable for me over the years. Kyle S. Flander -

I'm trying to hold back the tears, but I can't. Had a lot of fun there. I only hope my kids will be able to have the same stupid memories at a newly located Peoples.

Re: People's has to relocate
No Lumpy's.......?
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! I have to admit, I loved Lumpy's back in the day.
Edit: I have to admit, I'm a little ****** at the people who didn't allow the lease to be renewed. People's is an Ames staple and easily the most recognizable bar in town. I have to admit I'll never step foot in the building again after People's and Lumpy's leave. Those circumstances **** me off a little bit.

Re: People's has to relocate
Wow, I don't know what to say.......I've had a lot of good times there. By far, the best bar in Ames.

Re: People's has to relocate
Moving People's is like moving a great monument. It just shouldn't be allowed.

Re: People's has to relocate
I'm almost in tears... Lumpy's is my favorite bar. Where the hell am I going to get 25 cent Mich Goldens?
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -
Re: People's has to relocate
Wow...that's too bad. It's been there ever since I can remember (way back to '99 ). I'm glad that they're going to stick around since it's one of the few places that has live music.

Re: People's has to relocate
Sad...Sad news. I worked at Peoples and Lumpy's through college. Great place and great times....

Re: People's has to relocate
That is the BEST location in town for a bar. What a bunch of crap. A new bar better be in that spot. The bars are already crowded enough as it is.

Re: People's has to relocate
While Welch Ave Station was the preferred destination by me and my peeps, I will always have some fond memories of People's. Mainly the fact that People's was the bar that I ended up throwing up at on my 21st birthday. I remember it like it was yesterday. Ah sweet memories.
Hopefully People's will find a suitable location to relocate to.

Re: People's has to relocate
Is Mo Jazz still open? They should just buy that place and totally remodel. That way they could have Lumpy's in the basement with access from the back. I can't believe they have to move. Their current location was awesome.

Re: People's has to relocate
Ok, joke's over.....right??? I am hoping this is just a cruel joke someone is playing.

Re: People's has to relocate
How long has People's been at it's current location? This feels like the end of an era...

Run down and file for landmark protection!
My son spent a lot of my money in that bar!!!

Re: People's has to relocate
Andy: You know what the Mexicans say about the People’s?
Red: No
Andy: They say it has no memory. That's where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory.
