Anyone care to share any VEISHEA Memories?
It seems like an appropriate topic for the weekend.
Do you have a memorable experience from VEISHEA (great, bad, embarrassing, or drunken)?

does urinating in Martin Jischke's lawn count?
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. Thomas Jefferson, 1802 -

Grain Bin parties...my buddies' front lawn parties at their house on Welch right next to the Grain Bins (where we got a riot cop to pose with us for a picture)...in '92 joining a group of what we thought were just fun-loving revelers marching down Welch Ave and having that group grow exponentially the further we went and finally turning into a riot when it hit a wall of cops at Lincoln Way...and then getting tear gassed...good times...

Re: Anyone care to share any VEISHEA Memories?
no good ones right now, after tonite maybe Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -

Last year during the canoe race on Lake LaVerne with about 20 feet to go our boat tipped over. It was so cold in the water that I lost my breath for a few seconds. It was fun though.

I was there too. Marched all the way to the president's house til someone broke a window and by the time we got back to Welch, there was a sea of people. The funny thing about the police and the tear gas was there was a strong wind blowing up Welch that night, so if you could duck into an alley or driveway, the gas floated right by... no tears for me! -
Re: Anyone care to share any VEISHEA Memories?
At the last riot I had no idea what was going on because I was down in Lumpy's. We turn the corner and are walking up the street completely oblvious to everything when we see a line of cops in front of us. One of them is yelling at us and we naively try to explain that we just live up the street and are trying to go home when he unleashes the mace on us. Umm, ok, I guess this might be a little more serious than we thought.
After we circled them we were standing around with 99% of the rest of the crowd watching to see what the police were going to do when they started marching towards us. Everyone started walking away when I see a cop run up and hit the guy next to me, who was also walking away from them, in the legs with his billy club. It was completely ridiculous and completely unnecessary (the rioting and the police reaction to the rest of the people who were just curious what was goign on).
It sucked because my freshman year it was the second "Dry VEISHEA" and everyone was really down on it and that ('04) was the first one of my four years that was actually a lot of fun and had a lot of student involvement. I went up for last year's and felt everyone (planners, police, students) did a great job of having a good time without going too far.
