But please dont start to compare their competition to Iowa State's competition because they beat someone from the Big 12. If they played in the Big 12 they would not win 10 games year in and year out, HANDS DOWN!!! I would almost take you up on it. OU wins 7 out of 10.
btw Greatest Game I've ever witnessed - ever.

We can, but you have to have the guts to use (and execute) trick plays like they used against OU.

Re: Can Iowa State be the Boise State of the Midwest?
It was great to see the arrogant Oklahoma players not knowing with to do against an overmatched Boise team. You gotta admit, their coaching is creative and fun to watch.

I don't know if people noticed this but they were dominating that game until OU got a lucky momentum changer on the punt. Boise State was the better team that game and I don't think that would change.

Re: Can Iowa State be the Boise State of the Midwest?
Yeah, I have watched Boise St. play several times over the last few years, and when you do it consistently, it's not a fluke. I think a good deal of it is attitude, but they also have some good kids. So maybe attitude, great evaluation of talent, and great teaching. -
Re: Can Iowa State be the Boise State of the Midwest?
This might be the most ridiculous thread ever. THE BOISE STATE OF THE MIDWEST?!?! Last I checked, we wanted to be like Texas and Oklahoma, but if people are ready to settle for ONE great season instead of a consistent dynasty don't expect things to get much better around Ames, IA.
Oh yeah, and, you're really stupid if you think the new coaching staff is setting it's sights on being like Boise State.

Re: Can Iowa State be the Boise State of the Midwest?
Your "stupid" comment shows your brilliance. Here's Boise States records
2006 13-0
2005 9-3
2004 11-1
2003 13-1
2002 11-1
2001 8-3
200010-2
Guess only one of those seasons was decent.

Guess only one of those seasons was decent. That is what I call a response. I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone. -
Re: Can Iowa State be the Boise State of the Midwest?
About 99% of those wins come against WAC opponents, which is clearly a conference full of studly teams.
2000- Best win: Northern Iowa? or maybe their win against UTEP in the Humanitarian Bowl. You decide.
2001-No bowl game, same wins against crappy conference, lost only two big games.
2002-Only loss came against Arkansas where they got lit up 41-14, with one loss they only got to the Humanitarian Bowl beating the Powerhouse ISU.
2003-Still one loss to the always-tough Oregon State, with one loss they made it to the ever-popular Fort Worth Bowl.
2004-Undefeated regular season with a loss in the Liberty Bowl. Yes, you heard that right.
2005-Three losses which came against their only tough oponents, invited to MPC Computers Bowl and lost. I love that bowl game.
2006-We all know the outcome of that season and I gave them credit for it already.
So, the "outstanding" records you managed to point out were pointless. In 2004, they went undefeated and only made it to the Liberty Bowl. If ISU goes undefeated I'm assuming we'll go somewhere a little better than the Liberty Bowl. Mean Gene won't accept "Boise State" status.

Boise would have won the Big 12 north the past few years.

I'm more confident that ISU would tear up the WAC than I am that Boise State would win the Big 12 North.

Re: Can Iowa State be the Boise State of the Midwest?
Without belaboring a point..we could easily have lost to both Toledo and UNI last year...that's not a team that would dominate the WAC. I agree with those who say we were capable of bigger things. That's my point. With a winning attitude Chizik brings and better coaching, hopefully we can get over the hump. But I don't think ISU would have dominated anything last year.

Re: Can Iowa State be the Boise State of the Midwest?
There is something to be said about playing in a lesser conference and racking up 10 win + seasons that attract good recruits who want to play for a winning team and may have some academic issues. Plus, if you have ever been to Boise it is a pretty cool city...I love Ames but most urban players would likely prefer Boise. Plus that stadium has not even heard of an empty seat and they sit basically from the sideline straight up...it is very confined and very loud. The cowbells are VERY annoying (tie with TCU's locomotive whistle)
