It's interesting how Boise State continues to win with recruiting classes rated lower that ANY of those from Iowa State. Mostly 2 star recruites from the West that most big schools aren't after. Superior coaching, creative play calling and players who will put out extra effort seem to be their calling. Why can't Iowa State be the Boise State of the Midwest? I believe we can.

Don't they have really low admission standards?

Yes, admissions require a 2.0 with 90% of the applicants accepted. I'm willing to bet the athletes are some of the better students...but I don't know that.

It's not like Iowa State's admission standards are that high either...

The most obvious reason to me why we can't is because we dont play in a weak/crappy conference. If we played in a nonBCS league with little competition, it would be easier to stack up seasons of 9-10 wins a year. Unfortunately we have to play the Texas', aTm's, and the Oklahoma's.

They didn't look too bad beating Oklahoma..in fact I thought they looked like the best team in the country that night. Beat Oregon State 42-14 and all comers. And if I remember, they smoked Iowa State when we had Seneca.

Dis Boise State all you want. But they've done a bunch of things we haven't done lately - rack up double-digit win seasons, made a BCS bowl, won that BCS bowl, and beat Oklahoma in the process. When was the last time we did any of those things?

I think with the lighter schedules, lesser teams can stay healthy and beat the power house conference occasionally. Its a different thing to play them every week and be able to keep up the pace they had at the bowl game against OU. Plus, trick plays like they ran were executed perfectly, but wont work every week against these guys.
I think BSU is a good team and has done great things, but I think if ISU aims to be like Boise State, they're setting their sights too low.

I think Boise State could hold up in the Big 12. They may not win it, but would be competitive week to week. And would Iowa State have been dominate in their conference during the DM era? I don't think so. My point is that talent levels are pretty even among a lot of schools. Boise has made up for it with superior coaching and superior attitudes. Maybe I'm all wet, but I don't think so.

BSU, from the times I've seen them, they work together as a team, play hard, hit hard, and don't melt when the $#!+ is on the line... unlike some of DMac's teams. I say he!!s yeah they could be competitive in the Big 12. I have a friend in Boise and they are pretty much "THE" team for the town of Boise and state of Idaho.

Yes Boise gets away with playing in a weaker conference, but we have some advantages they don't. It is a lot easier for us to make a BCS bowl out of the Big 12. It is a lot easier to recruit to a Big 12 school like ISU than Boise State. I can't say for sure, but I would guess this is one case where we actually have better facilities and a better budget.
The right players in the right system working together and we can make some noise the same as BSU. Hopefully Chizik is a guy who can get that done.

Iowa State will have to be like Boise State to win...we know
-Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas will outrecruit us and will have more talented players
That means we'll have to outcoach, outhustle and have the attitude to win. That's what it appears Chizik will bring to the table. Attitute! Let's hope so.

boise state will be in the big 12 in a couple of years.they will be the colorado buffalos. remember their coach hawkins put togehter the boise state team and i think he is doing the same at colorado-recruiting all of the western states-just recently he got a verbal from the top juco wide receiver surrency. hawkins is doing a very good job of recruiting. i look for them to be down this coming year, but will make substantial improvements when hawkins has his team based on his recruits.

One problem I have with this post is that Boise State beat Oklahoma last year in the Fiesta Bowl (what a spectacular game, BTW). They've also beaten some pretty good BCS teams, and they pounced ISU in 2002.
I think BSU is the Gonzaga of CFB - don't overlook them.
