Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
I hate Skip Bayless to the core.
Was anyone watching Cold Pizza a month or so ago when Jay Feely totally put him in place about steroid usage in the NFL? It was satisfying, and I also believe that the kicker Jay Feely could have a future in broadcasting when he is done; he was doing great on Cold Pizza.
Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
I own the Life of Reilly. Probably my favorite sports writer ever.
Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
On the national scale I gotta say Jim Rome sucks...I love Tim Cowlishaw and Michael Smith on Around the Horn and Wilbon on PTI. Lou Holtz is UNBEARABLE to listen to...someone get him a LISP book. I hate listening to Corso and Vitale...
As far as hear in iowa...well u can just take a nice guess on that one :)
Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
I forgot to list my favorite. Pete Taylor, hands down. His calls still give me chills. His voice was the Cyclones from when I first started listening as a kid.
Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
I'm not a fan of Brent Mustburger. There's just something about him that annoys me. Of course, Packer and Zabel are worse...
Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
Tony Kornheiser is the best...a great writer, a great broadcaster, knowledgable about sports and other topics, and most of all he is not pompous. Very cutting edge in my opinion.
Billy Packer is the worst...a babbling buffoon that just likes to hear himself talk...what a pompous *** he is. Old and tired in my opinion.

Of course, I haven't seen Cotlar's name up here yet. Sportscaster of the year? Please....
From a talk radio perspective, I miss Dan Patrick's show. Infinitely better than Rome.
As for sportscasters, I don't really care outside of home teams. I liked it when Carray Jr, Jr did the Cubbies, not fond of the new guys. I can listen to Joe Buck do about anything. He does a really good job.
Although I'm not big on his play by play abilitlies (he has none), I've really taken to Bob Costas from a "editorial" standpoint. And enjoy his show on HBO. Another good HBO show - worth the package price alone if you ask me, is Real Sports w/ Bryant Gumble. Can't stand Gumble in any other capacity - good God he was terrible on the NFL, but that show is terrific.
Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
Best: Woody Paige, Michael Smith, Keith Jackson (voice of NCAA football)
Worst: Brent Musburger
Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
best posthumous broadcaster for the cyclones:
dale williams and his infamous phrase"HOLY COW!!"
Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
I've always liked Joe Posnanski of the KC Star.
Read the opening sentence of this column he wrote after Zach Johnson won the Masters.

Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
I listen to ESPN Radio regularly and miss Tony Kornheiser's program. It was hilarious most of the time (intentionally) Dan Patrick's show is good too.
However, The Herd with Colin Cowherd is the worst piece of crap on the airwaves today. The man has the personality of wet noodle and the charisma of rock. I hear his voice and want to drive my car off of the road. Adam Schein of the NFL Network is just about as bad.
Re: Best and Worst sportswriters and sportscasters
Best Announcer :Gus Johnson, Marv Albert, Kevin Harlan, Joe Morgan
Worst -Vitale, Packer, Lundquist
Best writer :Bill Simmons, Michael Smith, Woody Paige, Tim Cowlishaw
Worst: Skip Bayless

I like SI's football and college basketball writers most of the time (Dr. Z, Peter King, Grant Wahl).
I get sick of the writers that are on ESPN all the time like Skip Bayless and Woody Paige but I have no reason to read them so that's alright.
