And again, you keep furthering my point that the only questions considering TO are his attitude and off the field conduct -- not his production. I won't argue with anyone who says that they don't want him because of off the field stuff. Everyone quits on plays. Moss was just the only one to say so. He may not be the best PR guy, but its not like he hurts the team that much, at least when he was in Minnesota. Leaving the Washington game early was a bad PR move, but didn't really hurt the team. Just standing there when you know the play is a dive up the middle isn't that bad a thing either. He just doesn't need to be open about it.
As for Moss vs. Furrey, Detroit's defense wasn't good, they were very often playing from far behind. They threw teh ball 596 times and ran it 304. Oakland had an awesome defense. Therefore, the offense didn't need to play as much catch up. They threw it 483 times and ran it 394. Those 113 more pass atempts added up to 109 more completioins due to the fact that Kitna is much better than anything the Raiders threw out there.
Don't forget that Moss drew constant double teams and I bet that Furrey drew very few, especially early in the season. Roy Williams drew most of the double teams. In fact, if you add in 100 completions to the Oakland offense, Ronald Curry would end up with around 85 for the season, very comparable as a second fiddle Moss as Furrey was as a second Fiddle to Williams.
Moss only played 13 games. Averaged out over 16 games, he would have caught 52. Add on for the fact that Oaklands QBs had 109 less completions and Moss would have around 70 receptions. Williams had 82 for Detroit. Not bad for a season in which Moss just gave up.
In conclusion, Furrey had a much more opportunity to make catches for a number of reasons.
1) Kitna was much better than Oakland's QBs.
2) Oakland had a good defense, so the offense didn't need to play from as far behind as Detroit did.
3) Point 1 and 2 led to 109 more pass completions for Detroit
4) Furrey was the beneficiary of Roy Williams double teams while Moss was double teamed leading to more catches for Ronald Curry. Note that taking into account the number of completions for Detroit, Moss and Curry's numbers compare very well to Williams and Furrey.
Moss helps NE a ton.
1) Moss double teams will lead to 20-30 more receptions for Stallworth.
2) Defenses will double team Moss leading to more running room for Marony. Who did they have to double team last season? Caldwell?
3) Moss may pick up his game while playing for big money and the chance of a championship. If he does that, then his value is through the roof.
4) Moss isn't the face of the Patriots. Brady and Billicek will still get more press.

The only thing they were missing was a consistent pass rush when Ellis got hurt. Enter Anthoncy Spencer.

Enter Anthoncy Spencer. Amen. Yet Dallas did seem to defeat Indianapolis without Ellis - he went down in the week before that game. I said when he went down, there was no way we'd beat the Colts and our season was in jeopardy.
Instead, Dallas managed to do a great job against the Colt offense, pull out a win and win their next two.
Sadly, my prediction was accurate - it just took longer to surface.
Strange that Ellis, a guy that was completely against moving to the 3-4 and the OLB position, was a guy that thrived and we couldn't live without.

Time to resurrect this...and show how very silly I was assuming Moss couldn't change.
Granted, this is the best surrounding cast Moss has ever had, he's getting a lot of passes thrown his way and they are winning...but still...wow.
Randy looks better than ever.

Yep, I'm glad I kept him on my team this year. With him and TO, my receiving corps is on fire.
What ever happened to truth, justice and the American Way?
