Plus, there are far more Cyclone fans closer to KC than Houston or Dallas.

I say put it in KC. Centrally located for the Big 12 and that place will be Ames-South when the 'Clones represent the North.

We need to make the damn game first for this to really be an issue. I had fun in Houston the other year so I really would not mind another trip down there but KC is definately more conveinent.

Anywhere but Houston (no offense)! I was down there for the Houston Bowl and I know that's not the Big 12 championship but local attendance was non-existant. Most people in the city didn't even know there was a bowl game going on...with a Texas team playing in it! I'm sure it would be better for the B12 championship, but you never know.

It's not like the location of the football title game has affected Cyclone fans' early-December travel plans over the last 12 years...

They have to alternate between North and South locations - it's only fair. We'd all love to have it in KC constantly, because that benefits the Cyclones if (when?!) we make it there. But Reliant Stadium is gorgeous, it's actually good weather in Texas in December, and I know if ISU were to get to the champ game, we'd all travel no matter where it is!

I don't mind having the football championship in Texas...so here is my idea....
Big 12 Football Championship alternates between Dallas and Houston
Big12 Basketball Tournament alternates between Kansas City and Kansas City...

I agree that the basketball tournament should be in KC every year. The football should alternate between a Texas location and Kansas City.

Houston would be great! A short 5 hour trip for me.

As for your experience with the Houston Bowl:

1) There is a lot going on in Houston and, no, everyone is not immersed in college FB.
2) The Houston bowl is a new (ie: no tradition and limited publicity) bowl game.
3) I guarantee you that the place would be packed if Texas or A&M make the championship game and probably will be no matter what teams are playing...because it is a marquis game...not a crappy "second tier" bowl game.
4) I personally chose to not go to the Houston Bowl (I did go to the Indy Bowl) because my support for the McCarney era had ended. As it worked out, I'm glad I didn't waste my time on the trip!

I will be there in my Cardinal & Gold when ISU is representing the Big 12 North in the Championship game...no matter where it is played!!

Having gone to the Houston Bowl, I can certainly say that it is a great venue for a football game. Yes, local support was weak, but what do you expect? It was a lower tier bowl game. Even some ISU fans weren't too excited about it and we don't exactly have a ton of football tradition.

I am concerned, however, about playing this game in Texas 3 out of 4 years. This league is already on the path to becoming Texas and the 11 dwarfs, do we really need to make life even easier for them by playing the title game in their home state 3 out of 4 times?

Yes, there aren't really any options in the North other than KC. But I still think it needs to rotate every other year. Plus I recall reading a while back about some big upgrades to Arrowhead in an attempt to lure the Super Bowl.

If it does go down like this though, the basketball tourney should be moved to the North permanently to offset football. Nothing again San Antonio, great city, Reliant is great, and the new Cowboys stadium will be nothing short of amazing, but you have to have equality here.

The Big 12 BB Tourney should be in KC every year because they get the best attendance at that site. I think that the midwest schools seem to travel better for BBall is the biggest reason. You have ISU, KU, and Mizzou all right there and all 3 are more BBall schools than they are FB. Plus KSU and NU have a fair showing too. The last time it was in KC OSU fans turned out pretty well for the championship game. I think you get a bigger draw for the FB in the south and more for BBall in the North.

What other venues in the North could potentially host the Big 12 title game? I know the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis is a little bit too far east to truly be considered in Big 12 territory. But at least it's an indoor venue, and an easier commute for Big 12 North fans than most of the Texas stadiums.

What about Invesco Field in Denver? The weather in Denver in early December is usually quite a bit better than in Kansas City. And at least it would add one more North venue to the rotation.

The Big 12 needs to do something to keep the Texas schools from thinking they can strong-arm the rest of the league into getting whatever they want. They already stole the Big 12 basketball tournament away from its natural venue in KC. What's their next coup going to be?

If the conference had anyone with half a brain in charge, they'd do it this way permanently:

Men's & Women's BB: KC
Baseball/Softball?: Oklahoma City
Football: Dallas (or rotate between Dallas and Houston)
