they are actually looking at positives.. for iowa state...weird...
"4. Kicking game in good hands: Iowa State's kicking game is one of the few areas with little concern."
Ehhh, not sure I would go quite that far..... Not overly worried until it's crunch time.
Little concerned about kickoffs still as well.
I agree with almost everything they had to say about Iowa State except for the kicking game.. Shaggy chokes under pressure, even though he is dependable the rest of the game..
Also, is Bates playing this fall??
I was a little surprised to see them tag Bates as the top newcomer as well. (Maybe it's because he was the most heralded recruit). Hopefully, we won't need to be as dependent on Shaggy when it gets to be crunch-time...
I agree with everything in the article, except what everyone else is saying: Shaggy is a solid kicker except for when the game is on the line.
i disagree with one thing...
i noticed nebraskas leading tackler was reutrning. jolonn dunbar, he supposedly had 92 tackles last season.
i did not recognize mr. dunbars name so i started researching. i could not find him on any nu rosters, so i googled him. sure enough, jolonn dunbar had 92 tackles last year...FOR BOSTON COLLEGE. the dude was at bc and is returning to bc. never has been a husker. someone dropped the ball here.
If any of you have Insider, you can click on Bates' recruiting profile. I won't share what they say about him since it's privileged info, and I'll get in trouble for that, but they compare him to "Iowa State QB Blake Meyer"...WTF?
Also, I've put up numerous posts defending Shaggy in the past, so I'm not going to do it again, but look at the stats. He has one of the best FG percentages over the last three years of ANY kicker in the NCAA. So back off him, will ya?
Shaggy is much more astute kicker now than 2 years ago. Give him a break. He has improved with age.
Get a little tired of people ragging on Shaggy . . . I don't think there is enough evidence to know that he "chokes" under pressure. And 76% lifetime field goal average with no PAT misses is fantastic.
Not to mention on a few of those 'pressure kicks' the coaching staff didnt do much to help him out...running tosses and options to set up a field goal... I wouldn't be suprised to see Shaggy pushing all conference, all american status this year...especially if the media is liking him already
In the ESPN summary I noticed some pretty dope non-conf games for our big12 brethren. CU vs FSU, OU vs. Miami, ATM vs Miami, OSU vs. Georgia, KSU vs. Auburn, NU vs. Wake, and of course, USC vs NU.
I know some folks would rather see three easy games, plus Iowa, but I'd love to see us have a home and away with someone we don't see often, and get some pub in the process.
Colorado for instance has a really agressive schedule (incl. CSU, ASU, FSU), and I respect them for it.
