Hoffarber a walk-on ?

Sid Hartman in his comments today in the MSP Startribune says the Gophers
want Blake Hoffarber to walk-on as a Freshmen and get a scolly when he is
a sophmore. I wouldn't think that would fly to good with all the good press
he is getting out in Vegas.

Minnesota has no scholys left to offer for this year I believe. They have offered the same thing to Jon Leur (sp?). Remember, Coach Mac made similar offers to players while at UNI. Matt Schneiderman and Jared Josten are two that come to mind.

Sid's an ars-kissing octogenerian Gopher homer who would like to influence Hoffarber's friends and family to influence Blake to take this offer. But it'd be stupid for two reasons:

1. He's going to land a scholarship to a major program somewhere, he's just too good of a shooter.

2. Monson, the Gopher coach, is as good as gone after next season, and no sense commiting as a walk-on to a program that'll be starting over in 2007.

I wouldn't put much stock in what 'el Sid has to say. He has no concept of reality. He probably still thinks Jeff Grayer is going to go to Minnesota.
