    Re: Lawn Care - Seeding

Lawn work is almost as much of a chore as house cleaning.

I'll do lawnwork all day, everyday to get out of house cleaning.

Heck, I'll even make up stuff to do on the yard to get out of house work!!

If you use a product called Tupersan you can seed into this pre-emergent and it will not kill your grass we use it on golf courses all the time. Plus you can get it with a starter fertilizer attached. Try Lesco you should be able to get it there.

Lol, Ok I kept my mouth shut for as long as I possibly could. I'm a landscape designer at Perrficut and was just curious to see what everyone had to say about all the companies. Didn't read anything bad about Perficut so that's a plus! I'm not gonna push Perficut on you because there are a lot of companies out there that are very good at what they do. I will just tell you what I tell everyone. If you get multiple quotes and a couple are surprisingly lower, they are that way for a reason. You get what you pay for, which I'm sure you already knew. I've worked at Perficut for a couple of months now and I can promise that they do everything the "right way." They are also really big on customer service. And from what I have seen as far as bidding they are fairly competitive on pricing. Once again, not trying to push you any direction just telling you what i know. Let me know if you have any questions about anything.

I've heard the same...Perficut does a nice job and is competitive. I'm comparing both things - price and service. Hence why I asked all I contacted to give me 2 quotes, one that I gave specifics on and the other was their recommendation. I want to compare prices and who is going to try to oversell me.

As for my earlier mention of Earl May...I believe they base their 4, 5 or 6 step program off of Scott's step-by-step program. A local (Iowa) company and very helpful. I have no business interest in Earl May...I have just had really good experiences with them.

    Re: Lawn Care - Seeding

Do the lawn work yourself as most suggests.

I use Brekke's in east of Ames on Highway 30. for seed/fertilizer and advice. Used them for 13 years.

Also, when mowing, mow it short early, raise height as temperature goes up. and lower again in the fall, to mid-level.

Year two and every fall for two/three years, aerate and overseed in the fall..then every two/three years for awhile

The advice earlier for low nitrogen and higher reamining levels great advice.

    Water...grab drink...watch grass grow.
