Right, neither of those players are eligiblefor jersey retirement, I am sure about that.
Which is why the rule needs to be changed. It's hard to imagine two players that had a bigger impact on winning basketball games (and titles) at Iowa State.
It would be worth the price of admission just to hear Johnny yell out "Damn it Elmer, wake up" again.
Right in front of the TV camera during a huddle if I remember correctly. We were all gathered around the TV in my dorm room and I don't think we stopped laughing for 10 minutes.
Looking at the list got me to thinking about all the NBA experience there. A quick search came up with this.
# partial or full NBA seasons in the past 20 years
Big Vic - 5
Grayer - 8
Hornacek - 14
Tinsley - 6 (and counting)
Fred - 10 (and would be more)
Blalock - 1 (and hopefully counting)
Total = 44
I'd like to stack that up against other Big 12 schools and Iowa. Outside of Kansas, it probably has to be right up there and it doesn't even count Fizer's years. GMac should take those numbers on the recruiting trail.
BTW, anybody heard any reason why Fizer's not showing up.
