Losing Weight (Kind of a Brag)
Well, folks, I have not made it a public issue until now, but in December 2005, I stepped on a scale at 234 pounds (5'9") and last Friday I weighed in at 173 pounds. I lost the last 30 or so in the last two months through a combination of portion control and exercize.
I really feel the need to brag/boast/crow, and hope that maybe someone else will be inspired to do the same. I had a physical two weeks ago, and I am 43 years old, have a resting heart rate of 44 bpm, blood pressure at 112 over 60 and ran a 13:38 two mile.
Thanks for the opportunity to crow a little. I've found that my co-workers, family and friends are following my example and making progress in their own weight loss. If anyone is interested, I'd be willing to share weight loss stories and/or give tips/advice.

13:38 two mile run is impressive. I have run 2 marthons and 50+ runs of over 10M, and I would have a very hard time running sub 7 min miles for any distance. Heck I doubt I could do it. Very impressive!!! Good job outta you.

Re: Losing Weight (Kind of a Brag)
Congrats herbie!! That is no easy accomplishment.
I recently when on the diet as well. I'm doing the Weight Watchers points thing (except I'm not going to the meetings, I just have all of the information from my mom doing it). It's actually really easy...you can eat anything you want as long as you stay inside your points limit.
I'm only 25 but stepped on a scale and weighed the most of my life. I had previously been able to eat/drink anything and everything without gaining a pound but as the post college metabolism slow down is happening, that definitely isn't true anymore. So I decided to nip it in the bud before I got the beer gut.
After nearly a month, I've lost 10 pounds of my 20 pound goal. I'd encourage anyone thinking about dieting to try the WW thing. Smart Ones can be your friend... -
Re: Losing Weight (Kind of a Brag)
I probably couldn't run a 13 minute 1 mile run. Congrats dude, I know some people who are looking to lose some weight and sometimes the hardest thing is just getting started. You started, saw it through, and it's an impressive testament to your will. Giving up my eating habits would be hard for me.

Re: Losing Weight (Kind of a Brag)
Anyway, congrats to you. I know how much it sucks. I think you and I were about the same weight. So, I know exactly where you were coming from.
What sucks is that I strated to eat right and hit the gym 3-4 times a week.
Then, for some reason, I developed an irregular heartbeat.
Get this, until we get this figured out I am under Dr. orders NOT to exercise.
I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

I've been trying for the past year and a half - some times a with a little more effort than others. Started off around 270 and have been down in the 230s on my way to the goal of 21?. Had a lapse this spring back into the 240's - but so it goes.
Anyway - it's tough and that's a sizable amount. Congrats. Hope you have the discipline to keep it off.

Re: Losing Weight (Kind of a Brag)
Big congrats. Really - that's a wonderful accomplishment. It's not easy to stick to a diet and workout routine. I'd venture to guess more people "fail" at those than succeed.
You have every right to brag, boast and cheer. It feels good, plus, often times this type of "bragging" gets others motivated.
Nice job and keep up the good work - keeping your body fit is one of the most important things you can do!

Holy crapolla, I run quite a bit off and on during the year but if I'm gonna be 2 miles down the road in 13:38, it will be on a bicycle.....
Congrats too...

Last I checked, K = kilometers
Metric is everywhere. As an engineer I have become accustomed to using the metric system almost everyday. Some people wear Superman pajamas. Superman wears Chuck Norris pajamas.
