Heard Cotlar say today that the chaplain will be a baptist out of Texas. So that's good news for recruiting, probably.
Also, position will be funded by FCA, Cotlar said.
Baptists can have some interesting beliefs, biblical inerrancy, homosexuality a sin, etc. I would hope that a conservative Baptist chaplain would be able to lock his Baptist's beliefs away in a safe if a player comes to him and needs to talk about his homosexuality.

Definitely my opinion. However, I think a lot of people here have been working on the assumption that the chaplain would be only loosely affiliated with religion and would qualified to assist any football player with personal problems that they may have. If instead it is a position that is just there to provide religious advice to the Christian players that makes a huge difference. It would additionally reveal the true intentions of having a chaplain. It would not be to assist the football team. The position would just be a way to get a religious figure onto the football staff to promote Christianity.Quote:

IMHO, I believe Chizik wants a team chaplain to offer his players emotional and spiritual support and counseling should they seek it. (I would be shocked if there's any kind of mandatory appointments with the chaplain.) While Chizik is a Christian, I doubt he's trying to indoctrinate the team. He just wants to be able to offer them support if they want it.

If the players are having trouble in their personal lives and need help there are a lot of avenues that they can pursue. They have the same problems as the rest of the students at ISU.
Deace is a perfect example, I used to love hearing him talk about sports but then he would get on a religious or political rant. It was sports radio why should religion even come up? I even agreed with most of his politics but it's not something I want to hear.I'm fine with him talking about it on WHO. This is one thing I like about Marty and Miller (one of the few things). You never hear them go on religious spiels. This is also the case with ESPN, Fox Sports, Jim Rome (who sucks but has good guests), etc.
This "chaplain" isn't an ordinary guy. He was a head strength and conditioning coach at a D1/2 school in Texas. Sharp young guy, he will be more than "preaching" to the kids he will be supporting them-a fact many people are missing.
I am really tired of this discussion-is there anything better to argue about-maybe we can argue over other ways to undermine coach Chizik's vision and administration of his team.
