Chizik Video in Omaha

Pretty good coverage of the Cyclones over the last few days here in omaha as the tour stopped in council bluffs.

Action 3 News - Omaha, Nebraska News, Weather, and Sports | Sports
More omaha video from that twa* travis justice who is from SW Iowa but the fakest and most blind Nebraska fan ever because thats how he gets paid. (you have to click on the link for Tuesday's sports on the lefthand side of the page)

WOWT - Sports Sports section front for WOWT

On the right hand side there is a video headline of ISU.

Its amazing how much the Omaha media loves ISU. There is a fair number of reporters for Omaha stations who are ISU grads or fans too.

The host on AM 590 out of Omaha, the day of the tour, was ripping Nebraska and the athletic departments total control of access to the coaches and how the A.D. actually limits the types of questions to be asked. The host gave major props to ISU and its athletic department, he repeatedly said "they get it over there in Ames"

Limiting access to the coaches and players is great. It builds excitement and a huge buzz. If coaches lay it all out there and are constantly in everyones faces, it gets old and people lose interest.

I don't buy that at all. I think it's a case of an atheltic department knowing that they can get away with being an arm's length away and the fans will come back because there is nothing else. Almost a "You need us more than we need you" type of attitude.

This tour isn't just football and basketball. People are meeting coached from other sports and that has the potential to boost the "Olympic sports" attendance. By embracing your fanbase you are laying the groundwork for bigger and better things (attendance, merchandise sales, donations, etc).
This is just good PR on ISU's part.

Nebraska might not need to do it for football, but I doubt that they are putting a lot of butts in the seats for basketball or wrestling. How big is attendance for their volleyball or gymastics teams. No matter what they are I'm sure they could be better. People are more liekly to spend money on something if they feel good about it.

I don't disagree with you in regards to making coaches available. Look no further than our friends to the east to see what an "Area 51" environment is like.

But a simple FYI, Nebraska VB sold out their 8000+ person, dedicated facility before the season even started. My sis played vb at NU w/ OUR current VB coach. I'm sure both will tell you that Husker fans feel plenty good about their program.

Yes, yes - sibbling was a Husker. Very difficult time in my life...

True, very true. I suppose if the base is already there and you have crazy dedicatied fans, this may work for them. We are still building that.

I disagree... The reason it builds excitement and buzz is because it is Nebraska, the fans are rabid and obsessed with their team. I remember when they redid the artificial turf at memorial stadium one year. They wouldn't let news crews have access to it for a couple of days while it was settling... Well someone did a quick flyby and took some pictures from thousands of feet in the air... guess what the top news story in omaha that day was???
If Nebraska fans were given free public access to Callahan like our coaches it would actually be considered dangerous. He would be mugged everywhere he went. Not to mention he would literally be threatened numerous times by the people who don't support him as coach.

I disagree!! I think think the AD at N.U. is not a popular person in Nebraska. He has to win some titles (other than north division) in football and he will be secure. Win Volleyball only he will continue to feel the pressure. If they continue to win the big twelve North and lose the championship game the football coach is toast, and soon thereafter goes the AD. This guy reeks of arrogance. Someone needs to ask Pollard what he thinks of the guy. He walk into a bundle of cash and puts on the appearance of success. He claims NU needs time to develop a program. NU JUST SUCKS I WISH THEY WOULD IMPLODE. Go State!!

JP has nothing to gain saying anything about that A.D.

You are correct that Steve Peterson is not very popular. However he has a very difficult fan base to work with. They ran Frank Solich out of town and Steve basically caved to Alumni pressure on that one.

They end up with a second or third choice for football coach and while he's done okay he isn't exactly lighting the football world on fire. The longer they hang onto Callahan the better for ISU. Doc Saddler seems to be an okay hire however.
