I'm not sure what to make of this, but it has been getting worse over the past couple of months. I'm just not tired, I should be, but I have no ability to fall asleep lately.
I've gotten into really bad habit of taking 2 hour power naps ever 4-6 hours
Any other CFs out there still awake?

Any other CFs out there still awake? Possibly a little stress? I've been there. The first thing you might want to try is dropping the naps, and restricting your sleep to the hours where you really need it. It'll take some time to get your body back into synch with that. The other thing that will help is working out every day to burn off the stress energy. It'll be a b*tch while you readjust yourself, but that worked for me. Hope that helps. | |

I sleep 10x better if I've been exercising. Otherwise I'm really restless and I can't fall asleep.

I have been there and it sucks. You just can's sleep no matter what you do. I go through bouts of insomnia about every two to three months. I exercise, don't nap, and eat right but I just can't get my mind to stop. There are some great prescription sleep medications. I take them only when I need to and they do the job.

Used to have that issue, then we had lots and lots of kids. Now I never get a full nights sleep, but I can fall asleep anywhere anytime in about 2 min.

Just get sloppy drunk and pass out, you'll sleep like a rock then. :)

Another thing you might try is to start turning the lights down an hour or two before you go to bed. This is supposed to trigger some mechanism in your brain that tells you it's time to sleep. Also, stay off the computer an hour or so before you go to bed. Computer use can overstimulate your brain. You don't need that big adreniline rush that comes from reading CycloneFanatic right before you want to go to sleep! I've had off and on sleep problems . I think exercise would help, but a few other things I've noticed are: don't eat near bedtime (especially spicy food), don't use the PC or TV before bedtime, and try reading a few chapters of a book right before you go to bed.
If you wake up more tired than when you go to bed, it could be apnea (do you snore?) or LBS. LBS, along with insomnia, can make you want to take naps during the day.

My sleep cycle gets screwed up at this time of the year since we have daylight and no darkness for the next six weeks.

No more problems in this house. As noted, exercise really helps a person get a restful night of sleep.
And...we just upgraded our queen spring mattress to a king-sized sleep number bed. Wow...what a huge difference.
