Dude, they are like $30, just buy a new one, it is not worth you wasting 15 min trying to fix it.

Re: DVD Burner Problems. NEED HELP!!
I have a Dell Laptop, and I use Memorex, and Sony Dvds (+R). I have 1 5pk. and I have a huge pack of 100. Its not my dvds. I have used the brands before and always worked. I think if I switch programs that it might work different. Anybody know any good programs to use?

Re: DVD Burner Problems. NEED HELP!!
Have you upgraded anything on your operating system lately? I'm assuming you are using XP and there are a lot of OS updates weekly now. I've noticed that some drivers get messed up with OS updates. You might want to look for updates for your CD/DVD driver software. Many drivers can be updated from the properties menu on drive right from Windows Explorer.

Re: DVD Burner Problems. NEED HELP!!
Nero and DVD Decrypter are a couple of good burning programs.
Also, this may seem like a stupid question, but is there an option in whatever burning software you are using to switch from burning cd-data to dvd-data?

Yeah, I'll second the Nero thought. I haven't used their dvd program, but their cd program works really well. -

I'm pretty sure dvd shrink use external burner program like nero or dvd decrypter. I don't think it has burner engine itself.

So to ahhhhh "copy" a real dvd, all you need is dvd decrypt and nero? The reason I ask, I would like to copy a few DVD's that the kiddos like to watch. They tend to be not so nice with the originals and I am sick of buying multiple copies of pixar movies.

CloneDVD - Clone DVD - Copy DVD movie to DVD+/-R(W) by 1:1 - DVD to iPod, DVD to PSP. You can download a 14 day trial version to try it out before you have to buy it.

Re: DVD Burner Problems. NEED HELP!!
Guys, TOP wasn't asking about what software to use to burn a DVD. He is talking about a physical problem with the drive.
borc4cy, it sounds like you may have a dead laser in your drive. Optical drives use two different laser assemblies; one for CDs and one for DVDs. It is quite possible for one to stop working while the other one is just fine. Since it's in a laptop, you may have a tough time repairing or replacing it on your own. Is the drive a module that you can remove from your computer and replace with another one? Is your laptop still under warranty? Can you still read DVDs (like play a movie)? If you can't read DVDs and it's not under warranty and it is a removable module, your best bet is to go online and find a replacement drive to buy. If it's not a module, you might have to take it to a computer repair shop, or a hardware-saavy friend who's willing to attempt a replacement. Laptops are pretty tough things to mess around with successfully.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.
