Re: I met my new neighbor Bizaro Edition
Well, you've got your hands full.
We have a Husker neighbor and Hawk neighbor. Fortunately in between them is a Cyclone neighbor. He painted the inside of his garage Cyclone colors.
We did a little Cyclone flair in our landscaping. It will mainly show up in the fall. A nice autumn maple tree and a couple burning bushes will give us a nice red color. We have some yellow flower bushes and some gillardia (sp) plants - which has a large flower that is a red/gold type of color.
Next year we plan to put a flagpole in the yard - a big Cyclone flag will be on it for sure. Have not decided if we'll add an American flag to it or not.
Call it obnoxious - we care not. We're proud to be Cyclones and will "advertise" the program when we can. I've already had 3 different people see my new ISU license plates and ask how to apply for them - and I've only had the plates a few weeks.
The more Cardinal & Gold out there - the better.
As far as what to do with your new neighbors. Give Milton a call, he'll know what to do... -
Re: I met my new neighbor Bizaro Edition
I'm a 44 year-old reasonably succesful ISU graduate who happens to live in Iowa City. I've worked hard to keep my three kids (13, 11 & 10) on the Cyclone side and they buy me Cyclone merchandise for nearly every gift-mandated ocassion. They gave me Cyclone vanity plates. They give me Cyclone apparel. Now you guys are telling me that I'm tacky because I over-represent.... Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please. - Mark Twain -

"People can get a college sports team anywhere, okay?"
"They come to ISU for the atmosphere and the attitude. Okay? That's what the flair's about. It's about fun."
A little Office Space paraphrase.
iccyfan, you can sport as much ISU flair as you want. It's all about the fun.

Re: I met my new neighbor Bizaro Edition
Did they win the lottery? How else would they have been able to leave the trailer park?

Not at all...more power to you! It is only tacky when it is black and puke yellow.

Re: I met my new neighbor Bizaro Edition
It's amazing what a guy and his sister can buy when they pool there money together. A whole house with a "Hawkeye fan's live here" sign.

Re: I met my new neighbor Bizaro Edition
how far does a flame thrower actually reach? ...just curious of course.

Re: I met my new neighbor Bizaro Edition
Obsess much? Sadly I don't think it's healthy to be that obsessed with ANY sports team. After all, it's just a sport. I have a hard time believing that either of them are very normal. It's one thing to wear the team's apparel frequently or put up a flag, but to completely base EVERYTHING in your life around them is rather silly. Then again, I would expect no less from the CC out east.

Re: I met my new neighbor Bizaro Edition
Listen, I live about 10 miles north of Ames and there are a lot of Hawkeye fans here. We comment particularly on two of the locals. One who has some Hawkeye garment or hat on every day, at any occasion (he's half way to funeral attire you know) and another guy who likes to wear his cut-off t-shirt as often as possible to display his Hawkeye tattoos. It's probably needless to say that these guys are not "math guys."
I'm just trying to figure out why this close to Ames, that Story City is about 50/50 with allegiances.

Re: I met my new neighbor Bizaro Edition
My car has Cardinal and Gold plates, I spend way to much time obsessing at this sites and the others, and yeah, you could say I am usually a walking billboard for the greater good up in Ames.

C'mon now that shouldn't be a hard decision, with a flagpole an American flag should come standard. (And should fly above all others.)(If there was a patriotic smiley face on the side of this message box I would have put one here.)
But seriously fly the great colors, both of them!

Ankeny, Marshalltown, and Des Moines are all the same way. Especially in the past few years, there has been probably a 300% increase in ISU representation in Cedar Rapids. I'd be inclined to say that the state is more "divided" now than it has been since the restart of the series...

Maybe you can put out a Michigan flag. And use an Ann Arbor plate.
Your best hope is to beat EIU.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
