ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
Iowa State has now passed Missouri (29,828) and Colorado (32,870) in season football ticket sales. Next on the list is Kansas State at 35,846. Before "JP" and the surge in season ticket sales, we only managed to outsell Baylor and Kansas. Hopefully the Board of Regents takes this trend into consideration and expedites the facilities master plan in a timely manner. Go Cyclones. ref: "Taking the Next Big Step"
Re: ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
What is wrong with Missouri fans? I realize Pinkel is their coach so that hurts moral, but this could be a big year for them.
Re: ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
Passing Colorado is a nice accomplishment, even if they really stunk up the field last season. We weren't exactly great either.
How many did they sell in '06 (first year of a new coach - comparable to us this season)...anyone know?
BTW...nice find/stat!
Re: ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
People can say what they want about Pollard, but what he's done generating interest is impressive. Good job outta him and the fans for buying in so quickly.
Re: ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
btw - season tickets now stand at 33,342
Re: ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
I am suprised mizzou is not selling more tickets. They are predicted to contend for the north championship.
Re: ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
Is that Mizzou number right? They averaged 56K last year so they must get a lot of walkup tickets.
Re: ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
Do those numbers include their student sections?

To be fair, so were we a few years back.
Re: ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
We can get Kansas State with a fourth quarter surge.
I have said this before, but it is worth saying again
With the big12 tenous at best we need to get big and get big in a hurry to position ourselves for the fallout if the worst comes and the big12 disintegrates. We need to sell more season tickets than anyone except nebraska in the north and more than baylor or tech. We need to find a way to add seats and consistently fill the stadium to around 60,000. Then we need to be good enough teams would consider us a solid win. We will likely never have a tv market so what will make us "valuable?" Answer: die hard fans that like to travel and lots of them so we generate increased revenue at their stadium compared to other visiting teams, a consistently full home stadium that generates good revenue for visiting teams, and a team worth beating that helps teams strength of schedule. We cannot continue to be a bad to mediocre team people expect to beat in a half full stadium and think we are going to survive another 100 years of division I college football. I also think we need to campaign hard to get into some of the early games like the eddie robinson again and try to get a more avid base in kansas city.
Re: ISU overtakes Missouri & Colorado
60,000 in JTS? You do know that they proposed expansion that is not even suppose to start for a few more years is only going to add a total of 2,000 more seats to the capacity bringing it to around 58,000.
yes, I know...but the beauty of the jack is that with
grass hills there really is no actual "capacity." And even if we did not have grass hills to sit on my point still stands...we need to consistly fill with 60000 plus in the very near future. I would say before 10 years from now. If we only can get 58,000 then we need every seat full. We can not survive on 35000 people watching us play for a north title against missouri. When I see **** like that I wonder what we are even doing trying to compete in the big12.

Well, that last sentence really stings but unfortunately is true. The program has been bad to mediocre for so long that instantly adding 10000 fans to cold, late season games is difficult. We have a great core group of fans in that 35,000-40,000 range. However the fringe fan is not going to buy Iowa State gear, pony up and sit in the cold when we lose to Baylor at home and barely beat Illinois State and Army regardless of what's on the line. I know a lot of ISU alums, marginal sports fan, who like tailgating in the warm weather. Attending the game for 50% party and 50% football, if that. They have to be made believers and Mac was never consistently able to do that. Several games might have turned the corner, vs FSU, Independence Bowl vs Bama, 2004 vs Mizzou and 2005 vs Kansas, but it just never happened. If we want to bring in that extra 10000 consistently we're going to have to beat a few of the big boys and/or win a significant bowl game, Alamo or better. Hopefully Coach Chizik is the man for the job.
When Hilton Magic was built when I was in school in the mid/late 80s, we believed we could win every game. That "here we go again" mentality has to be eradicated.
