Post Elite Camp Review by Chris Williams

CyinCo posted this link in response to a different thread that has somewhat died. I don't think Chris W. nor anyone else posted this...and it's a pretty good read.

Re: Elite Camp Review by Chris Williams

I wanted to post a few comments I have heard from a good source.

Diante Garrett, while skinny, can practically score at will. There is no player on the current Cyclone roster who can guard him one-on-one.

Lucca Staiger: Just one word to describe him - STUD. He should be ready for prime time.

Sean Haluska: Should see quality minutes and contribute to the cause this season.

DeAndre Buckley: While young yet, still has a ways to go to get where he needs to be. May not turn out to be as good as his brother.

Charles Boozer: Will have to continue to work very hard to earn minutes this season.

Trent Lockett: Where did this kid come from? Let's get him in the fold.

This years's team has much upside potential but very much will hinge on the guard play. The inexperience will hurt to some degree but Haluska and Peterson should bring some maturity to the back court. Besides Brackins, the two players I am really excited about are Garrett and Staiger.

The team needs to land a couple of bigs for '08 but it's hard to say where they will come from.

I'm concerned if Haluska gives us many minutes.

I really don't think that is fair. What if sean is good? I mean D1 scholarship good but just decided to walk on at ISU instead of go far away and be unhappy.

I hope he turns out to be great. If we can have a bench player with no scholly come in, that is some great depth.

Oh please. By all accounts he's an athletic kid with the potential to add some quality minutes. No one's claiming he'll start or be a superstar but if he can come in make some shots and play solid D, what's wrong with that? I guess you're only concerned if you can't see past his last name.

I really hope Garrett, Staiger, Boozer, Taylor, Brister are better than that. Even Brock. I just don't have high hopes for someone who averaged 8.2 points as a sophomore in JC.

I was really concerned when Brock got minutes last year. If he can come in and help us, that's great, but to suggest I'm diminishing him because of his last name is absurd. I just think because he's a good shooter doesn't mean it'll translate one bit to Division I basketball. Add in the fact that I don't want him taking away minutes from one of our freshmen if they can use them.

Re: Elite Camp Review by Chris Williams

From what I hear, Sean's coach at Indian Hills is the reason for his not-so-great stats.

But fear not, Sean is a good basketball player. He can play with these guys. He's light years ahead of Brock Jacobson and IMO, is better than Dodie Dunson would have been this season. He's not just a good shooter, but a very athletic guy with a high basketball IQ and the ability to create his own shot. He's also got solid footspeed and good size at a legit 6-3, 190lbs.

Obviously just because he's played well in the Cap City doesn't make him a star but he's been playing well every since he got to Ames and his teammates (and coaches) are certainly aware of his skills.

And even if he doesn't see a minute of action this year, he's still got an extremely hott girlfriend so life is good for Sean Haluska.
