Text messaging recruits...legal way to communicate?
Have any of you noticed how many athletes say they hear daily from prospective coaches via text messages? I wonder
1. Is that a legal way to "talk" to recruits who you can't have contact with in person or on phone?
2. Who is actually typing all the messages? Do coaches now have a text messaging department to keep in contact with all these guys? I don't know how any one coach could do all that. He would spend all his time typing and probably get carpal tunnel.
I am encourage to hear that Iowa State is right in the mix with the text stuff. Shows Chizik knows how to play the game.

Wasn't there a big deal with this just recently? I thought the NCAA banned text-messaging. I'm almost positive that I read about it on ESPN.com and SI.com. If our coaches are still doing this, it may not have taken effect yet, but it's on at least on its way out.
Re: Text messaging recruits...legal way to communicate?
Funny this would come up, I just talked to a guy in ISU's compliance dept. last week. He said as of right now it is banned to text recruits. He gave a date that the ban ended though and I thought he said Aug, but I am not sure on that one. He is pretty sure that the coaches will find a way around it though, and that it will be a big part of recruiting.

Yes, the total ban on text messaging goes into effect in August. It will probably be loosened somewhat at some point in the future, but the ban was a much needed move IMO.
