Maybe had the Dline done even a servicable job our secondary wouldn't be hung out to dry. To say he needed to sit another game is stupid. He was arguably the best defender we had last year and we were facing a team that ran and passed at will against us. It also wouldn't be the first time a defender bit on the run against Iowa. That is kinda what they do best. Sit another game .
Also, it's not like LJ has gotten the job done the last couple years. He gets beat far too often. Sit the whole damn D for that matter.

Re: Sims and Johnson
I think Sims was still mad the next play and was not tuned into the run, he missed the Iowa RB clean. Ya, there should have been someone else to make the play before the safety, but that is what a safety is suppose to do, stop the home run. It wasn't like he was bitzing and got caught either. I agree that LJ is still getting beat way too often for a three year starter.

Re: Sims and Johnson
[QUOTE=Big12Crazy;1894484]Agree at times LJ did look lost. I thought for awhile we were watching the Walden years when we were on D. Playing 10 yards off each guy, letting the TE run free. It was not good at times. I agree with the blitzing...needed to do more of that. But our young LB core is going to take some hits this season, that is why LJ and crew need to step it up.
[QUOTE]
Playing 10 yards off each guy is not Walden that is classic Bobby Elliot pass coverage. I was hoping that had changed put after watch the Iowa game I see it hasn't.

We thought we could cover DJK and McNutt and Reisner one on one!
Man, that play action Post crosser pattern they ran for 197 yards was a toughy to stop!

Man, that play action Post crosser pattern they ran for 197 yards was a toughy to stop! The DB's need to run into the crossing reciever on those pick plays rather than slowing down to force the officials to throw the flag on a pick. If you slow down you'll never get a flag. Of course if they can't find their hanky it is an easy 6.
You also need to be careful that it is the crossing reciever and not your teammate that you are running into.

Make plays on the ball and defend passes because he is actually in position to defend a play? Thats what bad corners do I guess. LJ does not have the burst to stay with receivers. DJK dropped a TD on a pass down the middle in which Johnson spent the whole time trailing as well. He cannot stay with his assignments, so, yeah, he's great. At getting torched.

I watched the DVR last night. Reeves played with some hustle. I liked what I saw.

Re: Sims and Johnson
I love LJ cause he busts his *** for my favorite team and I really appreciate it, but he has to be the most overrated player on the team. Im not sayin he is bad or not good or whatever, but he gets a lot of pub for nuthin IMO.

Re: Sims and Johnson
On the play in question, where LJ and Sims go at each other, LJ is trying to cover someone running free right down the middle of the field... not the sideline. My first thought at the moment was... "where in the world is the safety?". That is the safety's play to make IMO.
LJ had every right to yell at Sims on that play IMO. Where was he at? They are called "safeties" for a reason.

Re: Sims and Johnson
I'm not saying LJ is awesome (he still hasn't shown me) but really? Reeves over LJ? Seriously. At risk of saying you know absolutely nothing about football, don't ya think that if this was true Reeves would start. Don't ya think. Just maybe. Or is it possible that Elliot just doesn't have the keen eye for d-backs you do? Or maybe Elliot doesn't watch film. Idiots. Move on.

Re: Sims and Johnson
LJ is fast and with decent size. Those two characteristics alone give him the highest potential of probably any of our DBs. I was extremely impressed with the progress he made from last season to the spring game a few months ago. At Iowa he made a number of mental errors. I'm still going to give him a pass and consider him our best cover man. He'll rebound.

Re: Sims and Johnson
There was a time when we made WR's pay for catching a pass. I miss those days.
