WR speed
CPR said tonight on the call-in show that with the exception of "maybe Josh Lenz" he doesn't have any 4.5 (in the 40) receivers and most are 4.6 - 4.8 and that's the main issue with the lack of separation because according to him they are running great routes.
While I never had any disillusions of grandeur , I was shocked to hear that from coach.

Re: WR speed
Yeah i heard that too...I guess you can't sugar coat the fact that you don't have a lot of speed at a position that should/needs to have a lot of speed. Especially in a spread offense. Gotta love his honesty.

I would have guessed that Darks and Money had some speed, but maybe not? I knew Sed, Jake Williams, Jennert, etc didn't have much for speed. I hope that West and Gary have some speed?
I sense a LOT of frustration in CPR right now. I wish he'd stop protecting his QB by blaming everything else though. The biggest problem with Saturday on offense was Tom Herman and his gameplan IMO. The 2nd biggest problem is that we have a QB that cannot hit the broad side of a barn. WRs aren't fantastic, but they aren't as bad as Herman and Arnaud right now IMO.

Re: WR speed
Tiller is probably faster than most of our receivers. If he doesn't work out at QB then I wouldn't mind seeing him try out WR.

Tiller is pretty darn fast. In fact, I'd say he's probably the best overall "athlete" on the team. I didn't say QB, I said overall athlete.

Re: WR speed
Maybe it is just me, but why do we have any WR's that run a 4.8? That seems really slow to me for that position at this level.

Really? He always looks shifty, but I never pictured him as open field fast. Maybe he just has long strides?
We have had an incredible lack of productivity at WR for quite some time.

Read the part in bold again. Your first problem is the OC, but how exactly is the OC supposed to game plan around a QB that can't hit the broad side of a barn, in your opinion. He game plans for what he has on the field. If Arnaud can't take what he does in practice and put it in the games, that can't be on Herman.

We have had an incredible lack of productivity at WR for quite some time. Have you ever seen anyone catch Tiller in the open field. No. Case closed. He's very fast.

Yeah, it seems like every year we have a lot of posters on this board touting our WR corps and how they're a strength on our team. I haven't seen it the past 3 seasons now. Even in Blythe's last year, 2007, it seemed like we couldn't break away from defenders.

Ive never really pictured him faster than Money or Darks.

Re: WR speed
On the flip side, Todd Blythe wasn't that fast yet he still was able to create separation and get open. WR speed is a factor but doesn't fully explain the lack of production at the position. I understand Rhoads not wanting to bag on Arnaud since he's the senior QB and leader and everything, but in reality, inaccurate passes are another big reason the WRs haven't done so well.

Re: WR speed
I would have thought that Reynolds was a 4.5ish guy as well as Jarvis West and Albert Gary and maybe Keith Blanton. That doesn't surprise me about Lenz, though. He's always had a very good burst off the line.
