Alabama had thousands of people standing outside the game (which sold out more than 100K) just to be a part of the atmosphere.
I love the Iowa-ISU game, but don't kid yourself, those games were a much higher demand than the Iowa-ISU game. The Cy-Hawk doesn't even compare.

No. Bama and OSU have stadiums that fit thousands more people than Kinnick does. And I wouldn't be surprised if the crowds outside those stadiums were many times larger than crowds outside Kinnick.
And again, how can you show me that the demand for the ISU-Iowa tickets wasn't just coming from Hawk fans in Iowa City? How does increased demand show that this was a nationally relevant game?
If you can show me that the Iowa-Iowa State game was the ratings star of all the games played that day, then I'll believe you.
Don't kid yourself. Nobody cares about Iowa-Iowa State outside the state of Iowa. You know how much discussion of this game I saw on ESPN? None. Now, granted, I was flipping away during commercials, and may have missed their one minute coverage, but there was no prolonged discussion about how great Stanzi is (ala Dernard Robinson or Terrell Pryor), etc.

Just since Ferentz has been here we've had home-homes with Nebraska, Arizona State, Pittsburgh (Pitt coming here next year) and Arizona. I would say all those teams are as good as Iowa State.

When the conference goes to 9 games that will mean that Iowa will only play 1 BCS team every year (most likely anyway). As a fan, I'd rather it not be the same team every year. But it brings in a lot of money for both schools and even if both teams stink people would still care about the game.
If I were in charge I think I'd stop playing the game every year and play it every other year which gives both schools a little schedule flexibility while maintaining the rivalry.

The flip side of that coin is they aren't going to get a home and home agreement it won't be an automatic win.
(Note I am 'thinking' like these fans, as they want us off the schedule for both an extra home game every other year, AND a tougher opponent. Nevermind they forget that the last 12 games are split...) Not to be an ***** but Iowa might as well go get another MAC school that would be a sure win instead because they beat ISU by 28 and still drop in the polls, so tell me what did Iowa gain by beating ISU by 28 that they wouldn't against a MAC school?
As much as you don't want to hear it, but the saying is true by looking at the rankings (which are facts) "Iowa has nothing to gain and everything to lose". Try to show me otherwise.

Well, while this is true, the real reason we dropped in the ranks was everybody loves Oklahoma, who obliterated another beloved team in Florida State. Had Oklahoma not lost, we wouldn't have moved at all, or may have jumped Florida or someone like that.
After week 1, we were 9th in the AP with 1044 points and 9th in the USA Today Poll with 1027 points. After week 2, we lost points in the AP, but stayed at 9th, and though we dropped to 10th in the USA Today Poll, we gained points (1050).
If you look at the numbers themselves, Iowa did move up...just not enough to counter Oklahoma's rise.

This may be the most talked about or hyped up season in Iowa history. That is the reason why tickets are in demand. Look at the home schedule too. Great home schedule.

Seems like it validates a lot of clone's feelings that the Hawks lose nothing by playing isu, as they won and gained more points in the rankings.

Quite frankly, traditionally Pitt, ASU and Arizona are in the same quality territory as ISU.
Also, would any of those games (besides Nebby, of course) generate the same total revenue the ISU/Iowa series does, especially when the entire state is concerned?
